Hi All
I have lots of lights in the house that use the GU10 50watt Halogen Lightbulbs. I'm thinking green here and seeing what I can do to reduce my consumption and wondered if these were available as an energy saving bulb as normal lights are - I've not seen any but wondered if anyone else has??

There are LED versions but I've no idea about brightness.

Have a quick look through this thread...

Try http://www.litebulbs.co.uk - they have a range of high powered gu10 bulbs, which are a bit brighter than the ones above. They use 2W more, but after trying both types, the extra 2 watts is worth it
Bits are on this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=587215
If LEDs are a bit too expensive, they sell Megaman energy saving GU10s too, but these might be a bit big for your lights0 -
We have some energy LED ones - they tend to be 'white' light rather than 'yellow'. We got ours from focus, but need more replacements now.

You are looking for compact flourescent bulbs such as Megaman. These can be purchased from Ebay. However if you plan on using them in conjunction with halogens the shades will vary.0

Of all the DIY stores, I have found that Focus have the best range of GU10 low energy bulbs. Both the CFL (Compact Flourescent) and the LED ones.
See a pic for comparison.Wealthsaving - a way of life?0 -
I got a pack of two energy saving GU10's from B&Q - 1.2w - there was no mention of their equivalent wattage so was not able to decide if they were suitable. They were in packs of white or blue so I got white ones. when I plugged them into our ceiling light and switched on what a dissapointment!
They were dull and bluey white - 1.2w is definately too low for anyting other than a worktop 30cm away!!
I visited the site suggested above and found a 4W light which is equivalent to 40w and it claims it's a warm white light so this looks more promising, but the problem is the price!! £18.79 for a single light? This seems to make the whole exercise pointless as It will take years to save on electricty if they cost this much???
http://www.litebulbs.co.uk/product.aspx?Product=21931 - anyone used one of these???
maybe I'll have to wait a few years and look again???0 -
ok, update on this. I have got hold of a 7w and 9w energy saving bulb. Neither are bright enough and the 9w is getting quite long and sticking out of the light fitting. so at present if you have spots then you can't really be enery efficient until someone invents a small, decent brightness one!0

I know you can get GU10's in both 7w and 11w from www.ecotopia.co.uk they give off quite a nice light as well I have them in my kitchen. They sell them in packs of 6 for about £40.0
