Hi All,
I am after a new DVD recorder and wondered if anyone here can suggest a model please?
Ideally I would like it to have:
Built in Freeview with TWIN tuner
Hard drive
Rewind and pause live TV
DVD player/recorder*
* I want one that can record onto both the hard drive and onto a DVD disc as I tend to watch most recorded from TV DVDs in the kitchen and as this new recorder would live in the living room the hard drive would be no good for that.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received, or if anyone knows of a website where I can input my requirements and it suggests possible models please post a link.
I have looked around and I can find HDD recorders with twin tuners but not DVD recorders with twin tuners - do they exist???
Many thanks.

These are solid well built pvr's no dvd option though but you can export recordings to pc via usb2 it does take some time to do. About £170 now the 9200 is black now the old version was grey when it came out in Sept 20050

Thanks Savemoney.
I was originally going for this Daewoo as it has series record:
http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/params.item.557813/walk.yah.UKEL-UK21
BUT the reviews aren't too great.
Is the HUMAX spec the same as the Daewoo except for the series record function?
Found this HUMAX at PC World for £149.97 (-2.5% Quidco cashback) plus £4.95 delivery. As it is £20 cheaper than all others I have found on the net, is it an older model?
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1502772220.1194352581@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfaddmhfkifmecflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=192531&category_oid=
I'd prefer silver, but again if the black is a more up to date model then I'll go for black.
If anyone can point me in the direction of the cheapest and most up to date version I would be very grateful for any help as I am a bit of a technophobe!
Many thanks.

EDIT: Also found it at Comet for £179.99 but I have a code for £30 off so £149.99:
http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=400670&cm_ven=AffiliateWindow&cm_cat=Promotion&cm_pla=humax&cm_ite=cometmain
And they do free delivery plus 3% Quidco cashback, so think this is the best price around unless anyone can find one cheaper.... BUT is this the most up to date version?
Thank you.

Humax are about to upgrade the software on the 9200's but it will update via the aerial even if you have bought it so it will technically always be the 'latest' version
The series record 'feature' is actually a generic thing that is part of 'Freeview Playback', this is meant to allow any compatible recorder utilise series record functions and also accomodate for programmes over-running/behind schedule so that recordings don't start/end early/late. The latest Humax update is due to provide this functionality which is why they are bringing out the update. The Daewoo just already has the software is the difference(i.e. series link won't work even though it has it installed until the TV companies broadcast the info).
In reality though the information required to use series link etc. is owned by the TV channels themselves and they need to broadcast it for it to work. Which at the moment a lot don't so it's not much of a bonus feature.0 -
Not quite what you are looking for but I can recommend the BT Vision box.
This will give you the twin tuner (actually you can record two channels and watch a third) and the pause live TV function as well as linking into their on-demand stuff.
Unfortunately you do need to hook up to BT Broadband which is not the cheapest in the market but all you should pay is £30 installation fee, although there is a self-install product coming soon.0 -
Sony and Panasonic make some great models, I'm considering buying one at Christmas time, and it'll be one or the other. However these aren't cheap models!
Earlier this year I nearly purchased the Sony RDR-HXD1065, that was my top pick in the spring/summer, it had all the features I needed and a 250Gb HD, but no second tuner, which some other models have, but I waited for prices to drop a little. I think the 1070 now replaces it with a 500Gb HD. There are some good Panasonic DMRs in competition - the Panasonic DMR-EX87 was What Video's "best buy", with a 250Gb HD.
Personally I'd have a look through the reviews in the home cinema / what video magazines in newsagents as they'll test them well.
Also pop over to www.avforums.com for a bit more advice!0 -
Bare in mind not all twin tuners are as good. My friend got one from Argos the other day it will allow you to record one and watch another but not record two at a time. The Humax will allow to record two channels and watch a 3rd in some cases or play back a previous recording. Honestly once you get one you never regret it its brilliant piece of kit0

Thanks for all your replies.
I ordered the Humax 9200 from Comet.
It was priced at £179.99 but if you type in HUMAX30 before the 8th November you will get a further £30 off. :T
I opted for free delivery so it will be here on Tuesday 13th.

I am looking for a dvd recorder that I can watch one programme and record another. Is there one out there that works when connected up to satellite reciever. Or do I have to give in and get the Sky + box. Thanks0

Suppose someone hooked up a DVD recorder to a Humax PVR via a Scart cable - does it work or is there some restriction on recording this way?0
