help combi, is it terminal??

Ooooh moved into this house over a year ago, no problemo, water pressure great, hot water plentiful....combi boiler is just over 8 years old BTW
Recently water pressure dropped.....sorted that, so now it is 2 bars. However, little hot water, radiators are fine...all on thermostats, turn the hot tap from any tap and it works for 2 minutes then reverts to cold though, so not much chance for a shower or even a bath .....any suggestions would be welcome.

Good morning: What is the make and model number of your combi? Do you have the manual? If so have you tried following the fault finding procedure? If you don't have the manual it could be available online from the manufacturer.

had a similar problem myself 2 years ago, water pressure was good and bad and a shower was out of the question.end result was the new water pipe that ran from outside my property to my house had shavings off the blue water pipe in it causing it to block from time to time, which affected the pressure and the hot water don't know if this helps

    Hi and thanks,
the boiler is a combi 102, I don't know who made it, it looks like the drawing of one which was available from Wickes, I don't have the manual either. I think that it is something really basic though, like we may have moved the button in the middle of the timer accidentally, not having instructions makes it difficult, thanks for any help though.

    Hi

    Does it look like this?

    http://www.halsteadboilers.co.uk/html/brochure.asp?cat=1
I would say a new diaphram is needed.
The system pressure is a little high at 2 bar (unless it's 2 bar when hot) 1 bar with the system cold is better.Don't worry about it now unless it gets up towards 3.

Yes it looks like that, any idea how much a new diaphragm would cost please?

    Hi

I suggested the diaphram as one possibility. You need to get someone out to look it over and confirm,or it could be as broonbear says. Either print a manual or get Halstead to send you one. It's always useful to have when trying work out a fault.
To answer the title question ,No it's not terminal.
    Good luck

  • I have had a guy out to it today, he says that it needs a new diverter valve as a part has coroded, house is 9 years old, however he says that he gets this from 3 year old boilers,,,, so the estimate is £80 for the valve plus double drainage, is this ok????? What should I expect to pay roughly????
  • Had corgi person to look, he said that it would need a new diverter valve....£80 for part plus drainage of the heating system, however we were in contact with another corgi guy who didn't even need to come and see, diaphram, gave us the part, and after a few hours of locating hard to find screws.....fixed, thanks to all who helped.....word of warning though, check diaphram:)
  • Thanks for all your help, corgi man came and said that it was diverter valve, talked to another corgi guy....who hadn't even seen it, he gave us a diaphragm....fitted it, now have hot water. tx.
