newbie looking for hamper advice

Hi everyone,
After far too long lurking I've decided to out myself and begin posting!

Have been thoroughly inspired by the hampers thread and am planning them as presents for all my family. We normally buy a token gift from our boys (aged 1 and 4) to grandparents and aunts/uncles so this year they will be getting a hamper each instead. Trying to stick to a budget of around £10 each. But I need some inspiration and help....

So far I have thought of:

Mum - footcare hamper (she works in a shop on her feet all day). Pedicure tool, nail varnish, toe separators, nice hand towel, foot cream and foot soak, emery boards
Step-dad - Beer hamper (his favourite thing). Some international beers in a rustic wooden box (like a tangerine box). Some snacks to go with it.
Mother in law - British hamper (she's french and loves all things british) - shortbread, jam, haggis, whiskey, ....help I need more ideas...
Father in law - Fisherman's hamper - thought about getting a bait box and filling with floats / hooks and also some little packs of sweeties to eat whilst fishing....again help I need more ideas...
Brother in law - TOTALLY need inspiration here. He is a single bloke, living on his own. Only hobbies are going to gym, playing guitar. Thought of a cook's hamper as he quite enjoys cooking but other than that lacking inspiration...
Brother - Liverpool fan's hamper. Liverpool glass, Beer to put in it, Snacks to eat whilst watching the game, Keyring (anyone know where I can get liverpool branded products cheap?)
Sister - girl's night in hamper (easy this one): chick flick, popcorn, choccy, hot chocolate and mug, slippers and a cosy little blanket
Brother in law - again totally lacking inspiration. his only hobbies are his playstation (!) and man utd. I cannot bring myself to buy man utd products :rotfl: I am a liverpool fan too like my brother.... HELP ME!! Can only think of a pamper hamper but smellies are really boring for a bloke don't you think? Want to make each one individual so cannot really fall back on the beer idea either, although he does like a drink.

Oh and I'm hatching a plan to do some home made boxes for friends with flavoured vodkas, biscuits, etc. All ideas gratefully received.

Thanks in advance! :T

    thanks Mervyn.
that's what i'm planning for step-dad but don't want to do the same for all the blokes as it won't be so personal. but thinking about it i could do a flavoured vodka one for one brother in law.
that just leaves the other brother in law (the guitarist). Am considering a guitar hamper with a little box to keep his plectrums in, some plectrums, a new strap, a cleaning cloth and maybe a Jack Daniels miniature and glass.
    what do you think?

You might be able to find some guitar sheet music books (of current songs) which are inexpensive, or even be able to download some sheets free off the internet.

An inexpensive cook's hamper might be a chinese themed one .... I recently bought a non-stick wok from the Sainsbury's Basics range and it was only about £2 ... you could fill that with a couple of bottles of soy sauce/sesame oil/chinese five-spice etc etc.

And for your Man U loving brother-in-law ...... does he live far from Manchester? Because you could buy him a ticket for a tour of Old Trafford and the footballing museum for £10.

Thanks...some great tips so far. Like the chinese cooking theme. May use that as a backup if I cannot think of enough guitar theme stuff. The trouble with sheet music is he can only read guitar tablature and not musical score. One thing I am thinking of is getting him a subscription to total guitar magazine for his main present. I could then put a note in the hamper too to say he has the sub.

For the Man Utd brother in law... he lives quite close but is a season ticket holder so he sees the ground every other week ;) I've almost decided to make him a vodka hamper now. I may give in an pop a man utd glass in there or something....

Any tips for the British produce and Fisherman's hampers would be very gratefully received! They will have to transport all the items back to france though so need to keep weight and perishability of goods in mind.

I knew I could rely on you lot :T

You could do some different flavoured vodkas for him (toffee vodka, fox's glacier mint vodka, skittles vodka etc) decanted into smaller bottles.

yep that's what I'm planning. have found someone on ebay selling nice bottles, and someone posted on the toffee vodka link another site too. Just need to make some tester bottles first to make sure it's drinkable...of course I will need to make the personal sacrifice of taste-testing them :D

Am also planning this for 3 or 4 of our friends for whom I'm going to make a gift box full of home made treats - flavoured vodka, shortbread, maybe even some home-made choccies. Am on the lookout for ideas for this too.
  • For the British hamper, What about devon fudge, marmelade, marmite (that’s very english apparently!!) cheese like cheddar or red leicester (though that might not travel so well), little bottle of cornish scrumpy, Crumpets/muffins, Melton Mowbray pork pies – even a tinned steak and kidney pie?… Maybe you could make a little booklet of traditional English recepies like spotted !!!!!!, rhubarb/apple crumble, trifle, yorkshire puddings, that sort of thing? This website seems to have a decent selection of recipies but I'm sure a quick google would turn up loads.

For the Fishermans hamper, what about gloves or something to keep them warm whilst they are sat still? Old fashioned fish and chips sweets? Copy of Angling News (or some fishing magazine?)

On the guitar hamper front, you can buy sheet music with tableture on as well as/instead of the usual staved stuff too....

    Hope that helps!

  • british hamper - heinz beans, lea and perrins bovril, oxo cubes, yorkshire/tetley/pgtips tea, mcvities biscuits, heinz ketchup
