Is my choice of laptop the right one?

After a couple of weeks reasearch browsing through various laptop guides etc I have decided on a HP Pavillion DV9565 for £799.99 from my local comet store. It has 2048mb memory, 320 gb hard drive, amd turion 64 x 2 processor, webcam, tv tuner & lightscribe cd/dvd label creator. I don't know what most of these things are but I've struggled to match these specs for a better price so I think it must be a good buy, can anyone confirm or suggest a better deal?
Thanks in advance

Have you compared with on-line Dell prices, they should be quite competitive.
Just to run over your spec:

2Gb RAM, excellent, should keep it ticking along smoothly.

Decent sized hard disc for a laptop.

Good processor, the AMD equivalent of the Intel Core 2 Duo.

Webcam, if you need it, to allow your friends to see you on-line.

TV tuner allows you to watch TV on the system, but you'll need to plug in an aerial.

(You didn't mention the graphics card nor screen size.)

Lightscribe, allows you to etch (burn) designs and labels into the non-data side of special lightscribe compatible re-writable discs (CDs, DVDs), but it is quite slow, hasn't really taken off. In my opinion it's a gimmick and I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it.

What version of Vista does it come with, hopefully at least Home Premium..?

Try www.froogle.co.uk to see if you can match the price at other on-line stores.

yes it is the vista home premium and the screen size is 17". The graphics are up to 895mb shared and 128mb dedicated.
Thanks for the advice on the lightscribe gimmick and I hope i'm not paying extra for it, unfortunately you never know as they just have one price for the whole package, I will try to find a match with dell online cheers and also i'll take a look with froogle.
    Thanks again

Just had a quick look and found a sony laptop for an extra £14, although it does have less hard drive space but otherwise seems like a good deal especially for sony. What do you think?

SONY VAIO AR51E T7250 17in WXGA 2048mb 200gb Supermulti DL Vista Home is the core 2 duo a better processor than the amd turion because i've had mixed response from different staff in various stores.
  • It all rather depends on what you want to use it for - without knowing that its difficult to say what would suit your needs

I just wanted to upgrade from my current PC as it is dated and very slow, I run a small business from home so use it for my stationary and to create and design my own adverts, I also do a lot of web browsing to source products /parts etc. My children are regularly on the computer playing games which I think really slows my system right down (I hope this is the case anyway as I'm always moaning at them for downloading new games). I also use it to store music and photos from my digicam and mobile phone.
    Hope this helps:o

Thanks for pointing out the online deals Lic,trouble is I've had a few few problems with the post of late as I've recently moved house (redirection service is a joke), I was hoping to get my laptop for this weekend as I was planning on giving my current PC as an additional gift to my daughter for her birthday (monday). I also read a really bad review on Laskys by a customer who had a nightmare getting his stuff so was kind of put off even though it was a cracking deal.
