Money saving BBQ ideas

Options
Hello to everyone,

What a great site!

As the weather finally seems to be improving, I intend to have a BBQ at the weekend. There will be 6 of us to feed - 3 of which are my step kids who are all fussy teenagers!

Has anyone got any ideas for healthy, tasty and above all cheap BBQ ideas. Not just meat but the side food too.

Step kids would eat nothing but burgers in buns given the choice but I try to get them to experience new foods when I can. I like fresh tuna but it is very expensive, I also like chicken breast in a marinade but shop bought marinades are expensive and chicken breasts aren't particularly cheap.

Thanks.

    Chicken thighs? Chicken legs?

How about chicken kebabs: meat from a boned chicken thigh, with red onion, peppers, tomatoes.

Sweetcorn - each portion baked in foil with some butter. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Home made potato salad - get the kids to mix it all together. So simple!

If you want delicious tender and tasty lamb.... get for example a leg, dice it amd marinate it for at least 12 hours in natural yogurt with onion and herbs (rosemary).
Thread it on skewers with peppers and you'll have great lamb kebabs.
For the veg, I 'va laways found that you can't really cook most from scratch on the barbie(pumpkin, courgettes, aubergines) , but if you start them in the microwave, you can finish them on the BBQ and get the bistro chargrilled effect.

Instead of the expensive chicken breasts in marinade, why not get turkey breast? It's far cheaper & once you've covered it in tasty marinade there's hardly any difference.
You can bulk out chicken & turkey by cutting into small chunks & threading onto kebab sticks with veg.
Makerel & sardines are pretty cheap & both BBQ very well.
