Cookery Book Shuffle

I love trying out new recipes and when I'm doing my meal plan I always sit down with my cookery books in hand and plan new meals, when it comes to cooking them I can never seem to find the same recipe again.
So what's the best? Writing down name of recipe, cookery book, and page number in my meal plan or typing them up and sticking them up in the kitchen?

No good asking me hun as I have the same problem! I see a recipe I fancy, either in one of my books, online or on tv, then buy in the ingredients but can never remember where i saw the recipe so end up making something different
As for making meal plans, I still can't quite get the hang of it and it doesn't feel right unless my cupboards are stuffed with just about everything possible to make any recipe I fancy at the drop of a hat, but then I find I'm spoilt for choice and can't make my mind up what to do with the fresh ingredients I've got
I blame Nigella for that after seeing her huge walk-in larder "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I've got a hard back notebook and it is split into personalised (eg. I found I'd got loads of sausage recipes so I added a sausage section) sections Veg, meat, pasta, etc... I have coloured the edges of the pages in different coulours in sections like the phone book to make it easier to find the sections.
Everytime I try a and we like it I print/ cut / copy it out and pritt stick it in the book in the section. Then I've got my own personalised recipe book of stuff I've tried and likedSaves paper if you write out recipes from here straight into the book too.
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
I've also got a hardback notepad which I started writing tried and tested recipes into, plus use notepad on the PC to C&P recipes from OS into a specific file, but I still forget where they are
I've even used sticky notes to bookmark certain pages to no avail, so I guess I'm just a lost cause
Despite all the recipes and books I already have I still end up googling for recipes to decide what to make "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Glad I'm not the only one who does this!!
I bought some asparagus and french beans (all in reduced section) as I know I made a fab pasta dish with them last year when it was asparagus season. Looked for the recipe everywhere but no luck!! Had to make it up, still yummy thank goodness!0 -
I write the recipe book and page number down on my meal plan to save thumbing through book after book. I also have three ring binders for all my clipped recipes and books that have long since fell apart or have been thrown away saving the one or two good recipes they contained. These three ring binders cover three seperate types of recipes.
1) Everyday savoury dishes
2) Everyday desserts
3) Posh entertaining starters, main and dessert (this folder also contains once a year recipes such as Christmad Pudding and Bonfire Toffee.
These binders are then further sub sectioned. The everyday savoury binder has headings such as beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian and the other two binders are also subheaded with titles best suited to the recipes in them.
I suppose they could be further sectioned into seasonable suitability but that would be really, really @nal.
Another thing I do (I know I can confess this here cos you are all as Ol'Style barking as I am) heheheh When I do a menu plan I co-ordinated first and second courses using a similar cooking system. Why cook a main course on the hob and a pudding in the oven and pay to heat two things. Plan so they are both cooked on the hob (preferably using the same hot plate, one after the other or both cooked in the oven)Life's a beach! PMSL, as I was writting about dividing up into sections I was thinking to myself, ooh, I know, I could have 2 books one for summer and one for winter:rotfl:

Cookery books are such a waste of money in our house, we very rarely use them. DH is a great cook & food lover so people are always buying him cook books for birthday/christmas. They just gather dust on the shelf.
If there is a recipe I see on TV that I like the look of I will find it on the internet, but after making it once or twice I know how to do it & don't need the recipe anymore (and have usually adapted it somehow anyway).
I have an ancient good housekeeping book that I use for baking, as accurate measurements are important for cakes etc, but I suspect that will be relegated once my Be-ro book arrives!
Everything else we just make up as we go along0 -
I seldom use cookery books these days, and I had a regular round of favourite meals. Having found Old Style I can now browse for recipes and I only print the ones I am going to make this week. Then they're set into an old ring binder photo album. That way they're protected from splashes etc the next time I want that recipe.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I picked up one of these recipe files
for a fiver from Lakeland's bargain shelf. Have started printing out recipes and putting them in. In fact it's what made me start typing them up for the recipe board. You could, of course, make one much cheaper.0
