Postal Strike - Credit Card Bills

Options
In about 2 to 3 weeks there will be a multitude of threads blaming the Post Office and credit card companies for delayed bills in the post etc. and all the charges that go with it.
Be pro-active rather than reactive.
If your credit card statement has not arrived, been delayed or lost and you normally pay using the slip at the bottom of the statement then IT'S UP TO YOU to make other arrangements.
There will be no GRACE PERIOD given.
Check your previous bills and ring up and make a telephone payment or if you can an internet payment.
Even a partial (minimum) payment will stop the late charges and a black mark (missed payment) on your Credit File.

  • In the words of Alvin Hall, it is amazing the number of people who don't think that it might be possible to phone their credit card company and ask how much they should pay :-)

Received 2 MBNA statements today 18/10/07. The first was dated 04/10/07 (18 days after issue date) and the second 05/10/07 (17 days after issue date).
Both still only allow 24 days for payment even though there is a disclaimer at the bottom of each statement.

**IMPORTANT** Due to recent industrial action by Royal Mail, this statement may have been delayed. Visit mbna.co.uk/account access where you can access your acount information and make payments to your account.

So MBNA acknowledge the problem, have informed customers about the problem (to the best of their ability) but haven't given any extra leeeway.

Yes - I got an email from M&S Money yesterday - basically saying the same thing.
Due to the recent Royal Mail strikes we would like to remind you of the alternative payment methods and ways to view your &MORE Credit Card statement.

It's simple, safe and secure. All you need is your card and most recent statement. Register now at www.marksandspencer.com/money Once registered you can log on, view your latest statement, recent transactions and make a payment with your debit card at your convenience.

Alternatively you can pay over the phone by calling 0845 900 0900, visit your local M&S Store or pay at any bank displaying the Visa or MasterCard sign. Please allow 5 working days for payments to reach your &MORE account.

Other benefits of the Service Centre include:

    - Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
    - View account balance and your &MORE points total
    - Check your recent transactions and payments
    - Access to the last 6 statements from your account
    - Safe, secure and simple to use
    Regards

I suppose people have their reasons but I don't understand why those who have access to the internet do not register with there card provider where they can access their balance details and statements as often as they desire.
Thus eliminating the problem of postal strikes or lost mail.
  • You can pay MBNA up to the payment due date online with no penalty, or setup a DD for the minimum.. No reason to get stung for £12 in this day and age...
