I just found about 10 tins of Chicken and Veg 'Big Soup' in the kitchen. Now the best before date is 07/2007.
Would this be safe to eat?

Yep, as long as they aren't bashed, they will be perfectly fine (and I know *some* people eat from bashed tins, but I wouldn't chance it as anything can get in there when the seal is broken.
Also, best before is just a guide to tell you that it mightn't taste as good as it did before that date passed, but it's still safe to eat. It's the use-by you should be more careful with.
Last thing, lol, I read in the paper that a couple who had gotten a tinned chicken for their wedding present (this was round about the war years, can't remember specifics though) opened it - a couple of years ago; and they're still aboutEnjoy your soup.

I'd go for it - trust your nose, open one up and if smells ok, then it probably is............... was the worst case scenerio - food poisoning
Good luck

the best before date on any product is for guidence.. the product will slowly deterioate (slowly being the word operative word there) food with a sell / use by date is different. stores can sell products after there best before date but not a use by date... its fine to eat. BUT check that the tin is not dented or rusted... there may be air holes and bacteria can then grow...

July this year? Yes, it should be fine. The critical date is the "use by" one, and even these are well on the side of caution, for obvious reasons. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

They will normally start to bulge if they are going off due to the by-products of the bacteria breading. As others have said don't eat if the tin is dented in anyway.0

Yep - I would0

10 tins?
To be on the safe side, don't eat them all at once0
