Toshiba laptop, Pentium DualCore (1.86Ghz) - around £310 inc cashbacks/voucher

EmpireDirect have the Toshiba Satellite Pro L40-12T at £379.99 plus £4.99 delivery, which seems to be as low as anywhere. Bear with me on this - there's I think a great deal to be had if you're quick (voucher expires 8th October)...

1) Till the end of October, you can claim £50 back from Toshiba on this model (follow the link on the following page). So £335 so far...

http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~TOS-PSL43E-00L00NEN~dept~computers~subdept~LAPTOPS~make~Toshiba.htm

2) 2% quidco, which should come out at around £6 I reckon, so £329 so far...

3) there's a 5% code for EmpireDirect here (which says it expires on the 8th so be very quick!), giving £19 off at the checkout.

What I did was go to Empiredirect via quidco. Then I pasted in the following link (it seems you need to for the code to work):

http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/index.aspx?aid=119

Then add to basket, put the code and username from HUKD in, start the checkout process and the £19 will have been taken off. (Hopefully that way quidco will also track, but only £6 lost if not.)

So with cashbacks I reckon that makes the laptop about £310 so far!
If you don't need a big hard drive, that's a superb price for a Pentium Dual Core 1.86ghz model (T2130) - practically all are celerons or the cheaper AMDs in this price range. The only thing is that the Toshiba's only got 512mb of memory, which needs upgrading right away. This shouldn't be a problem since Play.com are selling 1gb for £17.99, so add 1 of those, or much better due to the better performance of matched pairs, buy 2 at £36, and sell the spare 512mb. So assuming cashbacks come through, the total price I reckon (it's hard to be exact) is around £346 for:

Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T2130
Processor speed : 1.86 GHz
Windows Vista Home Basic Edition
2GB DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)
60 GB Hard Disk
DVD Super Multi drive (Double Layer)
15.4" WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display
802.11b/g integrated Wireless LAN

If you have found a better spec for this money, please share! :)

PS and you can still sell the old RAM on too for a few more quid back...

Phone them and tell them if you aren't getting it at the price on the email you don't want it.

they said,. "it would be fine, if you send it back,"

ive opened the DS lite up, so I donno if they will take it back, price is 92quid when it should of been 56quid odd, seems like they let the % off code work but not the 20quid off code,
well gutted,. im going to call up again, and cry longer,:T

Edit >19th oct > didnt get a chance to call them,. anyways 2nd invoice came a few days ago and it seems like they have accpected the discount codes. :)

You used the word "of" instead of "have" to denote a past tense. No sympathy.

Well you also used the expression "well gutted" like someone out of East Enders or the Bill. Now that's annoying! :D

ok, you made a pointless post and then follow it up with another pointless post,

    It's very childish.

I wouldn't recommend buying anything from Empire Direct - I had a large fridge freezer delivered over a year ago and my kitchen floor was damaged in the process - only two delivery men for a huge item.

They admitted it was their fault but despite numerous calls, emails and even a letter to their Chair on the anniversary of the damage nothing has happened.

I don't know what to do to get them to resolve the matter (I've almost given up) but what I do know is that I would be wary of very buying anything else from them, particularly a laptop - their customer service is non-existent from my experience.

Fair enough but presumably it was a third party that delivered it rather than Empire Direct's own people? If so maybe you'd have been better off dealing with them.

In any case, 10 replies and not one comment about this deal - I've still not seen better for £345, on here or elsewhere.
