Internet Explorer Crashes In Windows Vista

About 4 months ago i installed windows vista, only to find that everytime i tried and use the internet windows explorer kept crashing, i installed firefox, and thou it was not as frequent, the internet kept hanging whlst using that as well, also when i wanted to listen to music through media player, it would keep on crashing as well, so i uninstalled it, and put xp back on, now time has passes i was wanting to put vista back on my pc, and was wondering do people think i will still have the same problems, or will m/soft fixed these problems by now, i dont think it is a problem with our pc, as it is not new, but is not quite 2 years old yet, it runs on a p4, with 2gb of ram, so that is not an issue, any advise would be gratefully appreciated, many thanks

It might be worth setting up Vista as a second OS. There have been a few updates since the launch, they may correct the problem but you can then test to see if it works properly before you wipe your HD or upgrade. (Better to do a clean install). There wont be a service pack out for Vist though untill next year by the looks of it.

Just create a new partition on your HD and install Vista to it, Not sure if there is a boot manager in Vista, (there should be) I havent got my hands on a copy yet.

Firstly you will need a partition manager, Ive not tried any of these but they should be straight forward enough.(unless someone can help me out and suggest an alternative program please) I normaly use PM7.

You need to create an NTFS primary partition by resizing the existing partition on your HD. Once resized, create a new partition in the unused space. Do not set the drive active, this is for your main OS.
Reboot with the Vista disc in the drive and start the installation. Vista will ask which partition you want to install to, choose the one you just created.
After the installation when you restart, you should get a boot screen after POST that asks which OS you would like to load. You can then choose between Vista and XP.

thanks, i downloaded the top one on the list, i go to make a partition, and it tells me i cant as windows is currently uses the hard drive, it gives me an option to reboot computer, so i do that, and at startup it gives me a screen and it scans something for around 5 minutes, then reboots the computer, when computer is rebooted, no partition has being made, could you explain how i make the partition, thanks.

Ok Ive downloaded it so I can walk through it for you. There are two ways to do this the quick way and the proper way, I wil take you through the proper way slightly slower but better. Its best to do this a bit at a time in case anything goes wrong and you need to redo it.
Run the program and your screen should be split into three sections.
the middle section is where you want to be, select your HD from the list and right click. You should have a drop down menu, Format partion delete partion resize etc, etc.
You need to click on move/resize partition, and you will get a pop up window saying "Are you sure you want to move/resize system volume (c:)?"
in the middle of the window it will say basic hard disk 0 (HD model) go to the right hand side of the box you will get a small bar with arrows either side. Left click and drag the box accross and where the partiton was it will say unallocated space. Click yes and you will see now that in the middle section you will now have your c: drive and unallocated space. now all you have to do is click on the apply tab at the top of the screen.

and omg this is a demo version and this function is not available.
Lemme see if I can find a decent freeware program brb

I need help here the only partition managers I can find you have to run from removable data, or you have to pay for them. Can anyone suggest a freeware or shareware program that will run from windows?

  • Apparently through reading other threads, Vista has its own patition manager. When you install Vista you should have options to create a partition, using space from another partition, Not sure if it automaticaly moves data or destroys it when creating the new partition. I realy need a copy. Failing that you will need a partition manager that boots from floppy or cd ranish is supposed to be a good program.

The directions should be prety similar to how I explained before.
