Windows installer? virtual memory?

Options
Hi,
I've been having two problems on my xp laptop recently.
Firstly, on various websites I use, a windows pop up appears saying please wait while windows installer installs the application (or something like that). If I cancel it it takes a little while to dissappear, if I let it continue it ends up stopping itself eventually. Is this because when I installed word etc from the disc I left some of the programmes (e.g. powerpoint) out of the instalation? It happens quite often and really slows me down...

Also when I'm playing this silly little game on facebook the window spontaneously shuts with no warning, and a lttle yellow hazzard triangle on the task bar (which I have to be quick to notice as it dissappears) informs me that my virtual memory is low. The game I'm playing is pirates (incase you know it) which I'm sure doesn't use much memory, so I'm a little confused:o .
Any help gratefully received.
Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o

sorry to but in, but i keep getting that virual memory thing coming up, and it says it increasing my virtual memory then goes, but often pops up every day!! my pc has recently been re-booted, it never did it before.
  • ccleaner can cause the office problem, by deleting log files.

If you have less than 512MB of ram, buy more ram to cure the virtual memory problem, www.crucial.com/uk

(run the crucial scanner to find out what you have, or right click on my computer, properties)

    Click Start>Controll Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System>Advanced>Performance "Settings">Advanced.
Then where it says "Virtual memory" Click "Change"
Make sure your C drive is selected in the Drive Volume lable list and click custom size. Change both Initial size (MB) and maximum size (MB) to a value of at least 1000.
    Then click set and ok.
This should solve your virtual memory problem....:D

As for the website popup it sound a little like you have some sort of malware on your system.
If you do a custom install on any program you install it shouldnt affect future installations of programs..
See the sticky thread on spyware and virus removal or run antivirus or spyware removal program.

Or it could be a cookie In wich case go to your controll panel click on internet options and delete cookies
    and temporary internet files

You could also try running a registry scan. Eusing free registry cleaner is quite good. This should remove any
leftovers from installations or temporary files if you have them in your system.
