Security for payments

I just won an auction without reading the payment terms properly (my fault I know)
but the seller accepts only cheque, direct credit transfer or via credit card using a service called ppescrow.com.
I don't want to pay by cheque or direct transfer because there is no security and the seller feedback is, although 100%, only 28 transactions
But I have never heard of ppescrow, and ebay doesn't recommend any escrow service except escrow.com.
Anyone offer any advice on if I should just complete this transaction.
Thanks

An unknown escrow service is probably no safer than a cheque..anyone can set up a service and pretend to be legit so you have no way of checking them out other than doing a google search and see if anyone has mentioned them either positively or negatively on any other website.
If it is not a lot of money it's probably best to risk a cheque, ebay don't cover any of those payment methods anyway so if it does go wrong you will have lost your money whatever you choose.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks,
Do I have no alternative but to complete the transaction. because the seller specifies credit card and the only way to do that is via a suspect escrow service .
In fact ebay recommends that if a seller insists that their escrow service be used rather than escrow.com then they should be reported to ebay.
PPescrow gives no hits in google except ppescrow.com, and most links on that page take you back to the main page, so it is definately suspect.0 -
How much money are we talking?
If it's a lot, there's no way I'd pay under these circumstances.
Yes, you should have checked payment options before you bid... but there's no sense risking a lot of cash just to save yourself a neg and a strike. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
This has happened to me too ppescrow is deffo dodgy! It isnt a dvd box set you've won by any chance? There is another person on the ebay discussion site worrying about this too - their seller has a different id to mine - but both are chinesey sounding and in south west ad sell box sets - my seller also has "fake feedback" ie it looks good on surface but actually 60% is for "a pen" for 60p or "chopsticks wooden" for 20p - I have contacted previous buyers to see if they received items and if they were ok - but I am feeling very wary about sending cheques or anything to seller - the other worry is that they have sent me an address via my email to post a cheque to - but are not registered with any address on ebay (how can they do that??) ... so I am certainly going to wait before paying, and suggest you do the same! Next move? Request that payment is made via escrow, as approved by ebay - if they are legitimate, why would they object?0

just sent this to my seller:
thanks but that escrow site seems to be fraudulent, I suggest we both avoid it - I would like to pay via www.escrow.com, as recommended by ebay, this will protect both of us. Also, I note you accepted Paypal payments for your items sold previously, i.e. the pens, would this not be the simplest method of payment, I will be happy to cover your paypal charges..? Kind regards...
good luck let us know what you decide to do!0 -
The escrow site Ppescrow.com was created on 2007-08-18 and is hosted in China, so definitely dodgy.
Even if the seller ships an item it'll most probably be a low-cost fake or counterfeit."Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0 -

Yes it was a dvd box set and the seller was chinese.
I refused to pay by ppescrow
Because he had listed payment details as accepting credit cards, and as the only way to do this was through PPEscrow. Ebay advise to only use escrow so I gave him the choice of accept Paypal or an ebay recognized payment method.
He then gave me a PayPal address which I used. I did recieve the DVD box set and it appears good value for money0
