How much spending money?

Options
My partner and I are going away next week!!! :j

We are going to Gran Canaria for 2 weeks self catering. I plan to take £2000 for both of us but people think that's too much. My theory is I would rather have too much than too little and we can always bring money back. I don't want to feel restricted when I am over there and counting the pennies and I like to have fun filled days and do lots of excursions.

Any advice is greatly received

    Hi Saver03
I would agree with you, we go to Tenerife twice a year and even though we go H/B I take about £1500-£2000 as a buffer. We normally have about £600/£700 in euros and the rest in either T/C or £'s at least that way if anything come up we are covered and as you say it can always come back with you, far better to have too much than having to go without or cut back on your enjoyment knowning that you have the money but it is sitting in a bank account back in the UK
Take it with you and have a great time

.... For real, £2k ... what on earth do you spend it on??? We're a family of four who do a 2 week self catering in the sun each year. For four, with no scrimping we're about £1200 spending money and that includes the hire car and eating out every night, alcohol and 'trips' etc. But we don't buy presents (we made a deal with friends and family years ago), we don't send postcards and we don't spend E15 a day on loungers at the beach, we take our own lilo's and parasol ....

It's not like we haven't got £2k to take .... we just would end up wasting the rest, so I don't see the point.

Have a great time however much you decide to take x

Gran Canaria is pretty cheap compared to the UK, and I reckon you will take some cash back...

But hey, you are on holiday, so have a good time and spend some money :-)
(fyi, Canary Islands are really good for electrical goods and perfumes)

    Have a fantastic time!!

  • Take it - if you travel a bit light, Las Palmas has fabulous shopping facilities so you can bring back some clothing/shoe/handbag bargains.

There's more to Gran Canaria than lying on a beach all day every day and we have some great excursions around this beautiful island, so go and enjoy yourselves!
