Been looking to replace my Garmin 2610 which I bought 5 yrs ago for £650 & seen some special offers for £180 inc VAT
Had a look on eBay & found the Garmin 2620 for £129.99 (Item number: 300148034996), basically the same unit but with a hard drive rather than a CF memory card.
(They accepted my offer of £100 + £10 P&P)
Please Note: It states on the listing that these are refurbished units but as new & a great saving against RRP
The company which are selling are Navcity.co.uk (For those who don't like eBay) & they have them on their site for £114.99 inc VAT & P&P
They're an authorised Garmin Dealer
Outdoor GB are still selling them for £775
Garmin 2620 Units with Motorbike Brackets also on eBay (Item number: 300148477830) for £189.99 with the brackets.
The Garmin Motorbike brackets are only £23.95 from expansys, so it would work out cheaper to buy the brackets separately.
UPDATE: Expansys are currently offering £10 off any in-stock order over £20 when using PayPal at eXpansys
(Thanks to Bookie on HUKD)
This offer expires on the 30th of September 2007
The Map Updates DVD are free from Garmin & the unlock code is also Free in the first year & $75 (£37) thereafter
NOTE: Don't registered the unit with Garmin till your ready to update the maps, as you'll only qualify for one free map update after the map update release date.
I.E. All units reg'd after 20th Feb 2007, only qualify for V9
So wait until V10 is available then registered the unit to qualify for the latest update for Free

I am deciding wether to buy or not, I have done a bit of research and read the reviews. Most of the reviews state its worth the money easily (at the price braket of ~£600?!) and being Garmin, updates are not an issue. The waterproof does not come into play with me, but may be quite useful for any bikers requiring a Sat Nav? Does anyone have anything else to add before I decide to take the plunge or not?0

looks good value - but some reliability issues from what I've read. Also, needs constant power from ciggy lighter socket - no battery power backup.0

Never had any problems with my 2610 in 5yrs constant daily use
Yes, you need a Cig lighter socket & a adapter is supplied for home useterrierlady wrote: »is this bluetooth
Nope, no bluetooth or mp30 -
I would like to buy a Satnav for use in Europe. I know little about them but have seen this and the Navman N40i which seems to be available for around 130. Could anyone tell me which would be the better buy ? Thanks0

I've heard that because this unit contains a hard drive it is not suitable for use on a motorbike. But, surely they wouldn't be able to market it as such if it wasn't okay. Anyone had experience of using a 2620 on a bike?0

That's strange, as they market it for Motorbikes, hence why its waterproof.
I know when we where selling the 2610 on eBay, plenty of bikers where snapping them up with the brackets.

Got my Garmin unit delivered today & it has V7 maps (2005) installed & the V9 update DVD included in the box which requires registration to use.
As I already have V9 on my 2610 & it only includes a few new updates such as the new A1M round Pontefract as an example, I think I'll wait till next year when V10 is released before registering & updating the maps.
All Software updates can be done without registering0
