Hi all,

I'm moving back home in December after living in Sweden for six months. I'm sooo excited about the thought of the kitchen being empty. Before we left we found old bags of yeast, flour, herbs etc months out of date:o

What would you all recommend I start with? I'm starting a list of herbs and spices etc and could do with some help. What do I need for my storecupboards? I'm going to compile a list of everything, because of coming home so near Christmas :D:D I was thinking of a Tesco shop which could be delivered. Everything is going to seem to cheap after shopping here!

    My favs for store cupboard foods are -

    Pasta, rice, cous cous, oats, various herbs and spices, salt, pepper, brown sauce, red sauce, vinegar, bicarb, packets of dried chick peas, red lentils, kidney beans and butter beans, tins of tomatos, baked beans, Campbells condensed mushroom soup (great for pasta sauce), tuna, corned beef, dried milk, tea bags, coffee, flour, sugar, icing sugar, cocoa and a jar of honey.

  • Campbells condensed mushroom soup also makes great chicken pies. This is a family favourite and has been for years. Line your pie tin with shortcrust pastry. Fill with cold chopped cooked chicken and some chopped cooked bacon. (You could also add cooked peas or sweetcorn if liked, but we don't generally bother). Empty a tin of soup over the chicken, top with pastry and bake as usual. Surprisingly, the condensed chicken soup doesn't taste as nice as the mushroom, but that might just be me.

    It can also be used to make a cheap tuna fish bake. Ingredients: sliced cold cooked potato, tin of tuna, drained (can be in brine, water or oil, whichever you prefer), tin of condensed mushroom soup, some cold cooked peas or sweetcorn. Grease a dish (casserole or similar). Then in this order layer the ingredients:

    1) potato
    2) 1/4 tin soup
    3) 1/2 tin tuna
    4) 1/4 tin soup
    5) peas
    6) 1/4 tin soup
    7) 1/2 tin tuna
    8) 1/4 tin soup
    9) finally layer of potato

    On top of this sprinkle with grated cheese and dot with butter. An alternative is to sprinkle chopped cheese mixed with crushed crisps.
    Bake around 200 deg for 20-25 minutes . This easily feeds 4 people.

    I don't particularly like tuna but I will eat this

    tinned chopped tomatoes
    pasta
    rice
    wraps - the delibrand are resealable, last for ages and are good to put leftovers in
    Thai curry paste
    udon noodles
    coconut milk
    tuna tins
    mayonnaise
    frozen brussels and soya beans
