How good is the security level on a bmw mini?

The reason I ask is that a relative bought a mini a few months back and over the weekend it was stolen from the front of the house. No evidence of smashed glass or for that matter, any alarm sounding. I thought that the security on new cars is now one of the reasons that thieves are targeting older models or stealing the keys.
