Can customers be charged for using their credit card ie 1% extra

My dentist has just told me that I have to pay 1% on top of his charges for the privilege of paying by credit card. Is this legal? Suzex

In the United Kingdom, merchants won the right through The Credit Cards (Price Discrimination) Order 1990 to charge customers different prices according to the payment method.0 -

This is what The Credit Cards (Price Discrimination) Order 1990 made illegal in the UK! Credit Card companies cannot force merchants not to surcharge for credit card payments, even if it is in the merchant agreement.0
