With the way things are at the mo, I prefer variable, buts thats just me personnaly, also don't like the loss of 6 months interest if you had to close

thanks BLF, what a great rate. really wish they offered a three-year bond at the same rate. anyhow, i have until october to decide when my existing bond with NW expires. still praying for the BofE to raise rates :)

    What's the big deal ?

6.65%-6.75% has been available on 1,2 and 3 year bonds, available from several providers, for the past month.

Now when someone ofers 6.80%+ that'll be interesting.

OS. would you mind naming names if possible. the best i can find is Leeds BS postal bond at 6.70 (three yr fix) but this has just recently been closed to new customers i read on this forum.
agree with 6.80+. which is why i wish the BofE would raise rates: would it not be wonderful to receive 6.80-6.85.

Leeds have dropped out, but you can still get (just) over 6.5% for anything up to 5 years, Anglo-Irish have 2 year at 6.65%, 3 year at 6.6%. May well improve regardless of BoE as wholesale money goes up.

  • Not too sure if the 3 year Leeds is closed. Not showing on their site but if you click on the following link, it still shows it and you can apply.

    Leeds 3 Year Postal Bond

Filled it in yesterday and got an email with account number. But is subject to posting off application and proof of identity

In the last month, without thinking too much - Leeds BS (officially closed yesterday), Loughborough (still available), Birmingham Midshires, United Trust, Anglo Irish, BMW - there may be a few more if I think about it. Halifax and Coventry have also offered 6.60%+ recently

This from the FT :) -
"Rates on offer may rise to 7 per cent if tougher wholesale funding conditions continue...that could take the best fixed-rate bonds to 7 per cent and 'no-strings' variable accounts to 6.5 per cent".

    {apologies for the number of smilies} :)
