New build house - new BT line?

Sorry to ask a really thick question.....but I will be moving into a new build house next week which obviously won't have a telephone line.
Is my only option to pay BT £124.99 to have a new line installed? If so, am I contracted to them for my line rental and calls for a set period of time, or can I transfer to another company as soon as the installation has been set up. Also does anyone know how long it takes from requesting a new line?
THANKYOU!

Provided you sign up only for BT Together Option 1 (effectively, line rental only), you will be able to sign up for a CPS provider for your calls as soon as the line is operational.
It isn't a good idea to move your line rental from BT anyway (see the 'HERE' link in my signature below for that and other voice telephony cost-saving ideas).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Well shop around, BT dont have a monopoly so you could contact other telephony providers to see if they will install a line. Chances are most wont as they dont seem to want to offer services like that to customers.
If you go down the BT route if you'll have to pay the charge to install the line & then you have a minimum period of 12 months to use the telephony service with them before transferring to a provider of your own choice.
Between 5-10 working days (maximum of the 10, dont panic
) to get a line installed

Its a new build, so its subject to an engineers apointment and that could be a month easily. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -

There are other options but BT is probably the best choice.
The contract period for line rental is 12 months but as Heinz says you can use another provider for your calls immediately. If so, am I contracted to them for my line rental and calls for a set period of time, or can I transfer to another company as soon as the installation has been set up. The lead time for a new line depends on where you are in the country, but you an always order it now and arrange for it to be installed at a time convenient to you.

Thankyou - what speedy replies :beer:normanmark wrote: »Openreach are quoting 5-10 working days currently
Who are Openreach? Do they just install lines? Are they reliable?
If I pay for installation....does that automatically mean that I need to have my line with BT? Can I not ask them just to install it...or is that a stupid question!
I personally have had problems with BT in the past and I don't like the way they operate - I've been with TT for the past 2 years with no problems (although I don't use their BB) - but having read peoples opinions on here...I am now thinking of not going over to them again with my line rental and calls. My BB has either been with BT or Orange - both of which I have never had problems with.
Can anyone recommend anyone else? I would like BB, basic calls and line rental package - as I tend to use my mobile.
Thankyou again!

Curently doesnt mean for certain like you indicated. Probable and 'maximum of the 10, dont panic ' mean 2 very different things. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -

unless the OP is going to order the telephone line in 6 months time, my post is quite relevant still. Scare tactics 'ohhh you'll have to wait a month' is rubbish!0
