Sending identification documents for Bradford & Bingley esaver...

I've just applied online for an account, and now it says I need to send two forms of ID. Do I just need to put them in an envelope and send them to the address without anything else, or should I have printed off the page with my application reference number on it? Should I enclose a piece of paper with this info on, as well as my name and address?

I'd be interested to know what other people did! Thanks.

One of the ID proofs will have your name and address, I'd just stick a piece of paper in with the reference number as well, but they shouldn't need it.

    If I were you, I'd give them a call. It's a Freefone no. after all (0800 11 33 33 Saturdays 9am to 5pm.

With their help and provided that you're on the electoral roll, you may be able to avoid sending ID altogether.

or you could pop into a local branch and they can do the necessary for you rather than trust to the post, if do post you must put something in with their reference number on and your full name and address as well also send registered post.

  • really? didn't think they'd do that for the online saver.

i have one more question... is the interest rate for this account the same regardless of whether you opt for monthly or yearly interest?

I've never sent proof of ID registered, and they've always returned it by normal post (never sent the passport or driving licence though).

Interest rates are normally lower for monthly, but if you leave the interest in the account, the interest you get on the interest takes it to the same rate as annual interest. Not much point in monthly unless you're drawing the cash out.
  • The only proof of ID that I have from the list is my passport, and I'm a little wary of sending it. Might call them and see if there's any way that they can verify my identity and address without sending my passport away.

If it's really important documentation (and I'd never send my passport or driving licence through the post, that is far too risky), I'd sent it Special Delivery it's more secure and "guaranteed". "Recorded delivery ("Signed For") isn't very secure or guaranteed, in fact it's no different from first class, expect they ask for a signature on delivery, things go missing just as frequently as first class and the comeback if just the same.

They should be able to verify your ID using your passport number online, most banks/building societies have access to this the agency providing this check data now.

I've got an e-ISA from B&B and I copied my proof of address and ID, took it to the local branch and had it certified by them, then sent off the certified copies with a copy of the application form. Worked a treat.

  • ^thanks for letting me know - i'm not sure where my local branch is, but i'd much rather do that than send my passport in the post!
