Bath BS Regular Savings account rate increased to 7.00%

Bath Building Society will increase the rate paid on their Regular Savings account by the full 0.25%, from 6.75% to 7.00%, effective from the 2nd September 2007.

This account is now available only to locals (Wiltshire, Avon, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Dorset). *Though existing customers are not affected by the restricted availability.

Here is Bath BS' reply to the e-mail I sent to them:
Thank you for your email.

The rate will be increasing to 7.00% on the 2nd September 2007.

:rotfl: bath seem to be good at delaying rate increases for savers for longer as well :rotfl:

True, but if I had to choose, I'd rather wait an extra month to receive a full 0.25% increase than wait 1 month for only a 0.10% increase a la YBS. The last two BOE base rate rises = 0.50% yet YBS have increased their regular saver rate by just 0.10% following their failure to increase the rate last time.

yorkshire still pays a higher rate, allows a higher deposit per month than bath does and is more flexible re payments per month, yorkshire will say that if their reg saver was at a lower rate it too would have passed on 0.50% in response to last two base rate increases.

Don't get me wrong I still think YBS's regular saver is one of the best, but I'm extremely disappointed (though not surprised) that they've only chosen to pass on 0.10% especially after the 0% increase last time. [See your YBS thread for reasons why this could lead to uncompetitiveness should base rate fall].

Bath are a smaller building society but they've still managed to match BOE base rate rises. If base rate falls I think that Bath's regular saver rate could be higher than YBS' at some point. It should also not be overlooked that last August Bath's regular saver was paying 5.35%, but then they increased it by a massive 0.65% in one go, taking the rate to 6.00% when base rate had increased by only 0.25%.

Why would you close it when it has remained consistently competitive? There aren't many 'clean' ongoing regular savers paying 7.00% or more.

why would u close it when its worth keeping 100.00 in any building society account as nobody knows what the future holds for any of them ?

Agreed chaps. My doubt was created when there appeared to be no rate rise.
