Car Insurance NCD Help !!!

My son has come back from working abroad for the last two years and is about to buy a newish second hand car, but on talking to his last insurer he was told that he has lost all of his NCD ( 70% ) because he hasn't taken out car insurance for the last two years.

Does anyone know of an insurer that will honour his previous good insurance record and give him his NCD.

Many Thanks

Tom J

  • I was in a similar position and found a company called Plan A who were able to help me - I phoned them and explained situation... 0845 450 6077 (might help you to!);)
  • Hello!
If you call NU Direct for a quote, we believe it can be used if it is upto 3 years old.

Asda car insurance also take NCD if your last policy expired within the last 3 years.

"If you have been without a car we will continue to accept NCD provided your previous policy expired within the past 3 years."

    Taken from https://www.asda.online-insure.com/Asda/help/help_c05.html

What I would like to know is does anybody know of any insurers that will accept a NCD certicate dated 2003?

In my experience, the maximum time lapse for a NCD to remain valid is 3 years. However, proven driving experience can also help i.e. company car, held motor insurance whilst abroad.
It is a case of shopping around but would recommend using a reputable broker as opposed to one of the aggregators and/or call centre only staff i.e. someone who actually understands the underwriting philosophy of particular insurers. ( Not having a dig at call centre staff but generally more sales orientated rather than underwriting orientated)
