Been awarded DLA which means i am eligible to get a car through the mobility scheme. Is it worth getting a car through mobility? I am sure this topic must have been covered before. To refresh your mind i will get a car for 3 years, have all expenses paid for apart from petrol.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Consider if you will need the money that is spent on the car each month to use elsewhere. Some people would rather have the money in their hand, some would rather have the car!
My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

just end of the day after 3 years of paying the fees i will not have anything to show, the car will be returned etc. If however i was to buy a car, after 3 years it is still mine. Unfortunately i have to bear the running costs.

My friend gets a new one thro mobility every 3 years, the running costs are the norm whether you buy one or not......go for it. Depending on what car he goes for, deposit is sometimes about £300 and thats it.

My Dad gets a car through Motability as he couldn't manage without one, so it's worth it for him. He gets a brand new car every 3 years and everything is paid for, if there is a problem with the car the dealers sort it out very quickly. He even got to change cars mid-way through his current 3 year deal as his doctor told him he'd be better with an automatic because of his leg problems.

There is more info on the Motability website: http://www.motabilityonline.co.uk/site/home.htm?Mode=default Having just looked at it myself, I've noticed that they now do cars on hire purchase, you might be interested in that.

Oh, and just a thought for anyone else interested in Motability - to be eligible for a Motability car you have to get the higher rate of the mobility component of DLA.

I'd certainly sing the praises of motability cars too. Mum has had 2 in her time when I lived at home as it meant we had a reliable car, She doesn't drive but I do and it meant we weren't worried about going places that might not have good public transport links.

To be honest what I say to a lot of people is if you have done without DLA until now then you won't miss it and if you are paying for the upkeep of a car as it is you get some return on that.
