Virus Help

Options
I've just had a pop up on my computer saying that a Trojan.Vundo.B virus has infected my computer and that my NAV cannot repair the file, any ideas as to what I can do to remove this virus from my computer, and is it safe to log onto my bank account with this virus still on my computer ??

Thanks for any help.

Hi I also had this virus, alerted to it on thursday night by NAV, computer stopped responding, restarted three times but as soon as you clicked on a desktop item, the system froze. I had to completely reinstall windows and lost all info on my pc. My problem is that my system now seems to be running slower than before. I only use it for surfing and the pages are taking a while to load, especially the pictures. I have downloaded the fix from symantec website and it confirms the virus is no longer present. The system has windows xp, celeron processor 512mb sd ram and should be ample for surfing. the connection is dialup and runs at 46600. I would appreciate any help that could be offered. Thanks

Well I think a lot of people have had a problem removing this virus, including myself, but if you d/l the removal tool from the symantec site, then restart your computer in safe mode (press f8 on the reboot and choose safe mode), then run the removal tool program whilst in safe mode, you should remove this virus from your computer.

Install AVG and then restart the computer in safe mode tap F8 when machine is re-booting

Norton is a perfectly good AV. Installing a second AV on a computer could give you more problems than you already have. It's really not a good idea to have more than one AV running on a computer because there is too much chance of conflicts between the two.

Download Symantecs fix for this virus and follow the instructions that come with it.

Too much chance of conflict? I have never had a problem running 2 anti-virus progs (NAV and AVG). Same with firewalls (NIS and ZAP) and OS's (Currently can boot into either 98SE/2000(pro)/XP.

    Each to their own ;);)

If you run both the antivirus and firewalls on the same OS and have no problems, then you are lucky. The advice of EVERY major vendor and tech forum is not to do this because of the chance of conflicts. It does happen and can make big problems.

If you are running one firewall and one antivirus for each OS then this is completely different and shouldn't cause problems. Being installed on different OS's will mean they don't interact with each other.

Make sure you are downloading the right tool.

I had the Trojan.Vundo.B last week, went on Symantec and downloaded what I thought was the right removal tool, but having used it, it came back as no infection. Then realised that the removal tool is in fact for the Trojan.Vundo virus (not Vundo.B).

There was no removal tool for the Vundo.B last week, I had to remove it manually - the tool can be found at http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.vundo.b.html. If I remember rightly, the manual way was very easy, so if that fails, try the manual.
