And 8 days before most other organisations increase their even lower rates. I know which one I'd sooner have !!

    Hi,

I have just sold my house and have £70,000 to save, I have put 20,000 into icesave and 50,000 into my new hsbc online save, would i be best to move it across to icesave and leave it there

    thanks

......and likely to go up again with this latest rate rise of 0.25%! Yippee for savers (but not so good for borrowers, I admit).
"Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."

How long are you saving it for? Dont HSBC remove a months interest if you move your money away from them.

What rate are you getting from HSBC ? Why not put the rest into ICICI paying a better rate then Icesave ? Are you 60+ ? If so use Coventry 60+, they pay the highest (so far), but it's a fixed rate til 06/08. Do you want to play ULTRA safe ? If so spread the money about among 2-3 accounts.
It's not quite as easy as YES/NO, move it or not. You need to provide more info.

  • I have just opened an ICICI HiSave Account and would like to know why it takes EIGHT days to transfer money into this account.

hsbc online saver is variable (I think) so I would wait and see if it goes up
I would try and keep no more than £30K in each organisation (bacause of the max payout rules under the financial services compensation scheme if organisations go under)
alliance & leicester's direct saver might be worth a look if they increase the rates with this rate rise
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Based on previous experience I expect HSBC to increase rates on the 6th August..
