Leaving Home Survival Hamper Ideas Needed Please

My friend has a 17 year old niece who has just been offered the job of a life time managing her own bar and hotel in Scotland.
She is leaving in a few months and my friend wants to make her something special but different.
Thats when we came up with the survival hamper idea.
She has never lived away from home and is now moving 200 miles away.

Any ideas, want to help her make this special for her niece.

I made one when my friend started uni.
Included a mini first aid / sewing kit and other serious things. But the things she appreciated most were the scented candles, bath stuff and pampering bits. I also put in some rescue remedy and a book of poetry i knew she loved, just a few things to comfort her if things get tough.
    Hope she likes it!

Am I the only one to think 17 is too young to leave home & "Manage a bar & hotel"?

Glasgow slang - so may not be of much use if she is out of the central belt

And will she need to get someone else to sell the drinks since she is underage?

It would be nice to have some photo's of the family for her to cherish while she is up there. How about a cosy blanket and thick socks for bedtime...it does get cold up there! What about a guide to Scotland/history of scotland book to help her a long a bit. (There is nothing worse when you are working and you don't have a clue where anything is or what people are talking about!). What about on of those cocktail/wine/beer drinking guides that she can refer to if someone asks her to make something unusual (I wouldn't have had a clue how to make a bloody mary at that age! Obviously, well practiced now!).

Best of luck to her and hope she likes it north of the border

Depends where "up there" is I suppose.

Narrowing it down might help a bit.

What does she like that she doesn't think she will be able to get for example?

Thanks for all your responses, she is 18 very soon and by the time she gets the place up and running for her current boss who has bought the hotel she will be 18.
As said before she is as shocked as anyone to have been offered the position but her current boss saw her potencial and even spoke to her parents before offering her the post.
Your ideas are great keep them coming.
As me and my friend said even if this all goes wrong what a chance of a lifetime for a young girl to try and prove herself.
As for where it is i think my friend said a little island called Nig?????

My daughter has recently left home, but into a flat, so it's not quite the same. I agree about the family things, and pampering things, she'd bound to get homesick. Good luck to her I say!
