graphics card advice

hi, wondering if anyone could advise me on changing my nvidea gf 4 ti4200 with 64 mb, would a nvidea 5200 with 128/256mb or a radeon 9550 with 256mb be a big improvement? my computer takes ddr sdram which i presume limits me to this type only. thanks if anyone can give advice.

    How much is your budget?

The ram does not matter its what type of motherboard you have. What make and model is it? As it looks like you have an AGP connection for your gfx card?

hi, only about £30/40 or less if poss. it is an agp connection, a 4 year old computer, just trying to improve it a bit without spending too much. just increased ram from 256 to 768 which has helped.

A Good brand 6600gt would make the world of difference you might be able to get a 6800gt or even and agp 7600gt maybe second hand.

It will not matter as its the ram that is used for the GFX card which is on the GFX card itself. Dont worry about looking at 256mb cards also as it's rare you will use it look for a good make 128mb card that has ddr 2 or 3 :)

XFX, ASUS, MSI, PNY there are lots out there that are good.

    Some however are terrible.

If you can find a radeon 9800 pro (make sure it's a pro version) 256 or 512 .you should find one of these for around forty quid and it is a really good card for that price .
If your really lucky you might find one with a zalman cooler fitted .

But the 6600GT is better than the 9800 Pro.

the vid card ram size is not that important. only for newer games and your setup is old anyways, just like mine!

ive still got a 4200ti and it does all i need.
