Well i am a p/t barmaid/waitress (have been for years) and i am here to help your weekend go a bit cheaper:j
First of all ditch coke and lemonade as mixers, go straight for the soda, pubs should not charge for them as a mixer thus slashing up to 40p off your drink cost.
Always ask if there is a house double available, ours our half the price of normal smirnoff/gordons/malibu and archers.
Again if you want a wine spritzer opt for the soda.
Lime and soda is a refreshing change to coke and up to 60p cheaper.
Sod the mineral water ask the bar staff for a glass of iced tap water, usually free.
If your general haunt is a wine bar/ pub rather than a nightclub just take along a small hipflask (easier for womento put in their bag), the staff are not too concered about looking out for it and its a lot easier than carrying a half bottle of malibu in you bag, as long as you just buy the coke or mixer you are technically not breaking any laws or rules.....

In the same vein - I work in Adult Education...
- There are always free courses for adults to improve their maths & English - often through Learn Direct Centres
- Anyone can get a free careers guidance interview through an organisation called Next Step https://www.nextstep.org.uk
- Your local council will probably run some free adult education courses - many will have free creches attached
- Look around at local charities/voluntary organisations who will often be running projects for a specific group of people, enabling additional courses, support etc
- Check out the Learning & Skills Council to see what they're funding in your area https://www.lsc.gov.uk (click on the map to go to your region's pages)
- If you want to teach adults yourself, you can do a PGCE or CertEd free of charge (can even get small student loan amount if you like) - mine was part time over 2 years. You do need to teach during the course, but the college you go through will often be able to give you some voluntary experienceTotal Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

On the bar maid front i would also add - get to know your bar staff!
the regulars in our pub always gain from any mistakes we make, as we're not allowed to drink them, the first regular i see who i know drinks, say carling, gets given the pint. its only going down the drain otherwise!0 -

Don't think this is true of all pubs, I ordered 2 pints of Carlsberg Export at the weekend but the barmaid poured 2 pints of Carling while I was shouting across the bar telling her she had the wrong one, as soon as she finished the second one she said 'oh......you wanted export didn't you!'. Ten minutes later we watched her and her colleague supping the pints lol!!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

You are correct - it is illegal to eat or drink behind the bar. It's up to the landlord if you can enjoy the drink yourself but it must not be drunk behind the bar.0 -

Eating and smoking is illegal but not sure on the drinking bit, we have to have our drinks behind the bar so we can keep an eye on them and easier to drink them there than go to the staff area just to have a quick gulp of water or wine
I love it when people mix their wines up and i get 3 quarter sized bottles to my self. 0 -

Hi I work for NHS so not many money saving chances there. All I can say is ask for a car park discount ticket from staff. There is a basic form if your relative is in hosp more than 3 days and you can get a weeks ticket for £5.00, the same with meals (they dont advertise this its at the staffs discretion). Also if staying with your child and breastfeeding you are entitled to all meals and drinks free of charge.0

Pania - when it comes to debt councelling you have to be very careful, as you need a licence, I work for the CAB training to be a debt specialist and am therefore covred for my work there by them, but if I help anyone outside of that, I am just doing them a favour and I never ever use my CAB connection.
On the other hand I work as a journalist and if you think you have an interesting story there are many magazines that pay you £50 for it, also becoming a local correspondant for you local newspaper.
