My 71 year old aunt will go to USA to see her sister in Feb. She has high blood pressure, hiatus hernia and Diverticulitis which need to be declared for travel insurance. Martin Lewis' advice is to search www.moneysupermarket.com to find the cheapest insurance. Select Travel insurance online quote is about £50 for multi-trip. I haven't found the requirement of the online form to fill in the medical conditions yet.
Has anyone had any experience with the travel insurance companies from www.moneysupermarket.com? Are there other travel insurance policies for over 70s which are reasonably priced? Thanks.

Does anyone know of any travel insurance companies that offer travel insurance to over 65's for more than 91 days for one trip (travelling to Australia)?
Any help appreciated.
Many thanks0 -

hi cwicks,
you could try Insure For All (http://www.insureforall.com/). I use them all the time for my parents who travel to mauritius often (both over 65). They specialise in over 65s travel insurance and recently won some awards.
Hope that helps.0 -
My 80-year old father would like to visit the UK, from China. It seems quite difficult to find a suitable travel insurance policy for him. Can anyone help me?
Thanks.0 -
Thanks to everyone that replied to my cry for help over travel insurance for senior citizens with a pre-medical condition. I have tried everything above and a great deal more even seeking help from a heart specialist. The problem seems to be that when you mention 'angina', even though it is mild and all the screening questions are in our favour - they just do not want to know. We either get a flat 'sorry can't insure you' or they refer us to medical screening who will quote quite horrific charges. I note that 'white-rose-jax' was only quoted £125 by medi-cover, I wonder do either of them have angina? We have had quotes from £500- £1500 just for my husband.
There must be quite a number of people of our age (68 & 72) who have medical conditions and still want to be active and travel. We are not ready for rocking chairs yet!
If there is anyone who can help us find a company that will cover angina at a resonable cost we would be extremely grateful.

Hi white-rose-jax
Very interest in your reply. We have been to medi-cover and it was a very expensive quote plus they wanted us to get our Dr. to fill in a form. May I ask if either of you have heart problems.
Thanking you,

I have spent two days trying every company mentioned in this and other forums, with amazingly varied results.
At 68, with a heart attack in 2003, diabetes in 2006 and bladder cancer in 1990 most companies would only exclude those conditions, or quote huge amounts.
Then I tried https://www.covermytravels.com (mentioned in Martin's article). Their website has a list of what they cover for no extra premium, and my form of diabetes is on that list, so that was one less to worry about. They have a freephone number 0800 917 7829.
Talking to them I discovered that the citerion they apply is "has the condition been stable for 12 months". The outcome was that they are covering me, with all my conditions specified in the policy document, with no extra loading on the standard premium at all. It comes to £138 for an annual multi-trip policy to cover myself and partner. Many companies will not even sell you an annual policy over 65 age. The quotes I had varied from no cover at all to £411. The next lowest was £198 from flexicover.
So I will read the small print very carefully! But it looks by far the best I have found.0 -
Thanks to all above. Almost bald after many days on the internet and medical screening help lines. 'Cover my travels' is a good site but only offer single trips to 75 and annual multi trips to 69 years old.
We have found an absolute gem (at least we hope that we have), The British Mountaineering Council (BMC insurance) We went to Medical Screening (Fortis) and they asked a few sensible questions to make sure that our conditions were stable and gave us full insurance cover. You have to become a member of the BMC but it was worth it! No upper age limit.0 -
Mum is 72 years old and will go to Spain next month for a week. She's in good health, but she does take 1 tablet a day for high blood pressure. She's never suffered a stroke or heart attack. I want to organise insurance for her, but I would like it to cover her for stroke/heart attack. It wold be a nonsense for her to not have adequate health cover.
I know that there are reciprocal arrangements in Spain. But, I've heard of instances where people are taken ill and have ended up in private type hospitals that will not honour the reciprocal arrangement.
Does anyone have any ideas of who would insure her and at what cost please?0 -
SAGA are probably your best bet0
