Washing machine recommendation wanted

Options
I'm about to move into our new house and need to buy a washing machine for it. It needs to have large load (>6kg, preferrably more), relatively quick cycle (<1 hr preferred) and not too noisy.

It will have my Dryer sitting on top of it. Would like to spend less than 500 quid on it.

I've been doing a bit of research and Siemens, AEG, Bosch came up. Also came across LG (with 7.5 kg load). Any experience with any of these (or other) brands?

Cheers!

i too have been researching washing machines (very sad i know!) most of the dealers in independant shops have said that Miele are the very best and will last 15-20 + years however it would probably go over your £500 and the load is only 5kg but they are bringing out some new models in 6kg in a couple of months.

For £500 you could go for the best in the Bosch range which is logixx wfr3268 it was £499 at coop elctrical shop. I know someone who has just bought this and they are very pleased.

    good luck its a minefield!

Recently got a 1600rpm Zanussi Washer/Dryer from Currys for £359 delivered (WJD-1667W ?). Has a 6KG load. I know purists wince at combined machines but Zanussi always do well in the Which? Tests and owners are generally happier than with other brands (particularly any beginning with a 'H' ;) ) So far it's fantastic and alot quieter than our previous Candy 1200 washer, which gave sterling service for 7yrs or so. A great buy even if you rarely use the dryer.

  • We've been looking at a new washing machine too, have to agree with malteser and recommend you take a look at Miele. Their machines come with at least 5 years parts and labour guarantee (some come with 10 years!) AND Miele will keep the parts for the machine for at least 15 years after they stop producing it!

They do then in 6kg load, but you will need to budget around £800 though.

We have an Ariston machine and they come with a 5 year parts guarantee (not labour though). Can't advise on a specific machine though.

I have had an LG washing machine for the past 3 years and would definately recommend it. I did a lot of research on washing machines at the time and it met all my requirements for a robust, large-capacity machine with a 7kg load and lots of extra features. It wasn't cheap (£399) but has a 5 year parts and labour guarantee, which I needed when the dispensing drawer clogged up! It doesn't like thick fabric conditioner!
It is AA rated and very quiet. The "fuzzy logic" sensors the size of load and adjusts the amount of water needed and it has all the usual economy/rapid wash/extra rinse cycles. It also auto-adjusts the load during spin cycles to avoid the machine launching itself across the room when you decide to wash everybody's trainers and OH's overalls at the same time!
You can delay the start of the wash cycle for up to 19 hours and a 40 degree wash with 1100 spin on rapid wash takes about 70 mins.
