Very complicated scenario. What should i claim?

Ok ive been made redundant and am in my last 2 weeks of notice pay before i can claim anything. My wife works part time and we claim tax credits. We have one child.
Unfortunately it looks very likely that my wife will also be made redundant in the coming months. My daughter is currently not in school due to various problems and we are looking to home school her. My wife also cares (unpaid) for her mother 2/3 days a week at her mothers home.
Now assuming the worst and we are both unemployed my wife is likely to move in with her mother and my child therefore leaving me living alone.
I have looked at the entitled website and it seems to leave me with two options.
a) Claim JSA ( i have enough contributions), readjust the tax credits and claim HB, CTB and wait till my wife loses her job. This however will mean i have to seriously look for a job. But unfortunately im in the position where my child cant be left alone if i am working the same day as my wife.
b) Claim Income support to top up my wifes income, claim HB, CTB and readjust tax credits. Apparantly we would be entitled to about £10 per week IS as our income would be that low. This would allow me to stay at home with my daughter without pressure of finding work and to be able to survive till my wife and daughter leave.
Obviously if i can find work that is on opposite days/nights to my wife it would be better, but unfortunately my area is quite poor for work right now.
im also wanting to train up and learn something new but im not sure what options there are. Ive been told i might have a chance due to being made redundant of going on IT courses etc but if i dont claim JSA and claim IS would i still be classed as having been made redundant? Also if i claim IS then my wife moves out would i be able to switch to JSA after and get some proper help finding work?
Im sorry for the very lengthy problem i have but my head is seriosly messed up at the moment as im having the worst year of my life.
If anyone has taken time to read this then thanks.

Hi Cashtyke,
Does your MIL claim DLA?, If so your wife may be able to claim for carers allowance if she cares for her for more than 30 something hours per week, can't remember the exact figure. If your wife were to give up work and then claim carers allowance for looking after her mother (you don't have to live with the person to claim carers allowance for looking after them). Carers allowance would then put your wife in the right "box" as a carer to claim income support for you as a couple. If you claim income support it automatically entitles you to housing benefit and council tax benefit ( I think the full amount). If you claim income support you will also be entitled to the full amount of child tax credit too plus free prescriptions, dental etc.

Trying to "up" my income and rookie oldstyler0 -
in her mid seventies but is deemed to still not require disability although i think its only a matter of time. She lives 100 miles away so thats why my wife went part time and stays over at her mothers 2/3 days a week.
With situations as they are i cannot see us all living together after the next few months.
Thanks for the info though0 -
MIL could put a cliam in for attendance allowance (not DLA due to age).
Where home education is concerned, get in touch with Education Otherwise
https://www.education-otherwise.org
and
https://www.home-education.org.uk
if your daughter is not deregistered and is not attending school, deregister ASAP if home education is the road you are going to take as it will stop any truancy proceedings.
If you claim the income support for the time being there are the other benfits attatched like housing benefit and council tax, prescriptions etc. BUT you cannot claim Income support unless you recieve carers allowance or there is another valid reason why you cannot go to work (disability, lone parent etc).
Can you not all move nearer MiL? or Mil be able to move nearer you?
At the moment this all seems a little unfair on you if you split just so your wife can look after her mother. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10
