we have a recycling point a few streets away and i can recycle glass/ cans/ plastic bottles there. i am planning to get a can and plastic crusher. we don't have room in our kitchen so would prefer to keep the recycling outside in 3 seperate containers and empty when full. i'm looking for good cheap suggestions for this.
what do you use to store your recycling and where do you store it?
many thanks

we have one tub we got from the council for cardboard etc...then just going to buy a cheap plastic storage box (from poundstretcher etc) to put bottles in and then carry/drive this box to the bottle bank. if you mix them up then your bin will be "contaminated" as my binmen keep telling me and they won't take it away0

Luckily we have a weekly collection of recycle materials which is collected as mixed material. We can put paper, card, glass, tin, plastic bottles all in one plastic bag provided by the Council.
Fortunately we have sufficient space for one bag of clean material like this. It would certainly be more taxing to have to store separate types in different boxes. If I did, I would try using the black boxes which Tesco sell for about 89p/96p each.0 -
We have a weekly collection of paper, cardboard, glass tins and textiles. And I have two recycle boxes fronm the local council.
Plastic bottles go in the 'scary cupboard' in the kitchen, normally until I can't stand tripping over them anymore and then I take them to Asda when I do the shopping. You can recyle loads there.0 -
We just re-use old bags and boxes.....just whatever comes to hand!0

I find IKEA bags to be extremely useful for such purposes.
I have one for cardboard, one for plastic bags/packaging, and another for everything else. I just use and old plastic bag for glass bottles and receylce that with everything else.
I also have to walk it up the street to empty into communal recycling bins but I'm fortunate as I keep it in my spare room which no one sleeps in.
One day I hope to completely rejig my flat to give it more storage options as I don't have the space for such things as this.0 -
I've got a green lidded bin, which gets collected every two weeks which takes, plastics, cardboard, paper, tins and 2 huge green bags for garden waste.
I have a strong bag for glass, and have one for clothes ect. and go to the bottle bank/ clothing bank as and when full! Very lucky as 10 mintue walk from me.:Dit costs nothing to smile:D0 -
we have loads of plastic storage boxes without lids but don't really want to use them as they will get full of rainwater & beasties:eek:.
i was thinking about getting 3 plastic dustbins so we can just take these to the recycling point when they get full.
hubby thinks i've gone mad but is used to all my wonderful ideas:rotfl::love: married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090 -
I recycle a lot at home and at work, and have a selection of swing top bins and laundry bins (they were cheaper!) for plastic bottles, paper etc. At work we've just bought a basic outdoor storage cupboard JUST to put the recycling bins in!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Tesco make a bag for life wine bottle carrier. I put all my empties in this and when full take to the bottle bank. As I recall it cost about 99p, and is easy to store and carry around. Also use it when buying new bottles to save using those carboard ones supermarkets supply. The amout of wine we buy have probaly saved a small forest by now!:D0

i can recycle nightly on the way to taking oh to work so just use carrier bags!
one for paper and cardboard, one for glass, one for plastic bottles and tins... anythin else recyclable goes in carrier bags ready for the tip.
may sound silly but i don't like using carriers and would rather have a nice recycling system lol - the fab bags i've seen that link together are 2 expensive. anyone any ideas for a cheap version??0
