Ba American Express Cards

Has anyone applied /used one of these cards - at first glance it seems great that you can get a free flight with airmiles you collect and then an additional companion flight providing you spend over £15k on the card - what are the pros and cons ? Thanks

    Its a fantastic card.....:)

    A negative would be the annual fee....but if you also have another 2nd Amex card, blue - for example. the fee gets reduced quite a bit, cant remember exactly. Of course the blue card carries a smaller fee too, but this can be avoided if you make the minimum spend on it annually so no real badness there, just annoying!

    Vouchers must also be used within 12 months of being issued. Also, say you take 15 months to hit the £15k spend and are then given the companion voucher, you will have to wait until the next start year period before you begin collecting again towards the £15k spend - tad annoying I guess but it does take time to collect enough miles to go somewhere decent.

    Get the top BA amex card...I've made loads of miles using it and you frequently get special travel offers and promotional purchases etc.

    I'm fast approaching earning my 3rd companion voucher, and have so far taken 2 trips to the east using miles collected and on one trip I and my companion were both upgraded to first class for the outgoing and return journey!!.....later found out there was some hollywood movie star sitting back in club class.....hahahaa! so I really cant complain - Loved it!!

    There are lots of other ways to pick up extra miles on the way. Obviously, flying with BA boosts it the best way if you also join the Executive Club, some discounted tickets do not qualify though....there are other ways too....trade in Tesco clubcard vouchers, I think shell recently announced a shellpluspoints collectors card which gives you miles simply for joining and then collecting whenever fuelling up. Literature came through the post for that recently and the website is:

    ==>> http://www.shellpluspoints.com/welcome/index.asp

    Hope that helps....if you come accross other methods for accelerating the points collection...do let us know!!!

    Oh by the way, you can have a second card holder too thus boosting the point collecting quicker. It is also possible to merge milage collecting accounts with other family members if I remember correctly and even buy extra miles from the www.ba.com site if you are a few short.

    Very flexible... :)

  • We already have a"household account" with the BA executive club so presumably we can just add any miles from the amex card to this
