Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help, I have got little seedling plants of chillis, peppers and spinach that I have grown from seed, these where planted in cells, and I now have about 4 plants to each indidvidual cell - if that makes sense.
Now I have just read on a previous post that you should !!!!! out/get rid of -not sure of correct name :rotfl: all but one seedling in each cell to encourage it to grow stronger (this was for lettuce) do I do the same for the chilli, peppers and spinach??
Any help appreciated

These are two schools of thought on this. One says you have to take out the weaklings to help the main one to grow. The other says that you leave them and they will push each other apart. It really depends on how large the eventual plant will be.
I think you should thin out the chillis and peppers, but I suppose you could leave a couple of spinach plants to a cell and harvest the smaller ones when they get just big enough to eat.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
Hi nickinoodle. I hate wasting seedlings, so I'd pot up each one into their own cells/pots rather than thinning and chucking. Just take out the seedlings and soil and separate them carefully before repotting them individually.0

Yes I do this too as I hate wasting good plants. Just be careful in handling them as they are very delicate. Always handle via the leaves and not the stems as you could crush them.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

I would agree, try to separate them. Next time you plant them use small cells and plant 1 seed per cell.0
