I have been using the 0844 calls a lot lately for international calls.
Since last week, every time i dial 08443202020 or 08443203030, I get 'number is not recognised' message.
I phoned Virgin Media, and they told me that 0844 calls have been restricted.
She told me that she had a list of restricted numbers in front of her, and that 0844 numbers were on it.
What i do not understand is that a friend of mine, who also has virgin media phones, can get through to the above numbers without any problems.
Has anybody else encountered this?

Only BT has to allow access to all number ranges.
Virgin, the UK's most expensive telephone provider, has clearly decided it needs to make more money.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Temporary work round -
Join the phone co-op service for cable users, they offer full 084x access at BT rates (except 0845 which is 3.95p/peak, 1p/off peak but no call connection fee) - provided Virgin don't start to block services like the phone co-op using free 0800/0808 access codes.0 -
Subscribe with a company where you can access their service also from 0808 (or if that is restricted) a shortcode 18866 or if that is restricted, a landline number: 020 81 803 803
