Amazon seller questions - advice needed

Options
Hi

In need of advice from more experienced sellers please :)

My first question concerns feedback. I sold a book that Amazon only offered as a hardback, my copy was paperback. In the book description I made it very clear that the copy I had was a paperback and priced it cheaper due to this. Anyway, gentleman buys it and leaves quite horrible feedback saying that it wasn't as described - he made no attempt to contact me, should he have done then I would have been happy to have accepted it back. I guess that this is something that I should chalk up as experience - a lesson learnt - but I am posting this just in case there is something I can do about getting it looked at by Amazon. This is only my third feedback and it has left me with an awful rating.

My second question is about a returned item. I posted out a book on the 2nd Feb which came back to me today with a sticker from Royal Mail on the front saying that it had not been collected. What do I do now? The buyer hasn't contacted me and I've had a quick scoot around Amazons site and can't find anything of help.

I've only sold about 8 books through Amazon so far - never had any thing like this happen with EBay(although it sounds like that could be luck looking at others posts!) - feeling a bit disheartened selling on Amazon.

Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi OMD

Sounds like you've had a bit of bad luck all at once.

Amazon is generally much easier and friendlier to use for selling than Ebay, I've sold quite a bit on there.

I've had experience of both of your recent 'problems' but luckily for me I had been selling on Amazon for a while so it didn't make much of a dent in either my feedback or profit.

The problem with listing hb when the Amazon description says pb or pb when it says hb is quite common - buyers are well known for not reading the descriptions and can often leave a negative because of it. Unfortunately there is not much you can do, you could try offering a refund if they remove the feedback - say you're sorry for their disappointment etc and explain that you did describe accurately - you've nothing to lose as they've already negged you.

The item coming back from the sorting office is probably because the buyer did not pick up the item - maybe their postie didn't leave them a card.

I would suggest you email them and ask if they would like to have it sent again - get them to confirm the address. Only refund if they say they do not want it afterall - it's really difficult to get them to buy a 2nd time if they decide they do want it and you have already refunded.

If they don't want it I would suggest you deduct the cost of postage - although you may not want to risk even more negative feedback.

If you want more advice or 'support' post on the Amazon Sellers Thread (see link in my signature) 'cos we all kind of help each other with regards to Amazon selling.

    Hope to see you there.
