BT launch BT Basic for Low Income Users on certain benefits.

Options
"BT Basic, an easy and clear way to manage your bill.
This service has been developed so all the phone costs are very clearly priced, giving you a better idea of how much your bill will be. Having a better idea of how much your quarterly bill is going to be will help you budget, and should mean you won't be surprised when your phone bill arrives. BT Basic is only available to customers who receive one of these benefits:

Income Support
Income-based Job-Seeker's Allowance
Guaranteed Pension Credit "

I understand its their intention to get rid of Light User Rebate Scheme ,or stop new applications to it.

You need to be on Income Support, Income-based Job-Seeker's Allowance or Guaranteed Pension Credit to qualify.

"Please note: certain exclusions will exist for the scheme and you will not, for example, be eligible for BT Basic if you have a Broadband Internet Connection, more than one phone line, or telephone service provided by another supplier"

BT really are rotton sods! Both my wife and I are severely to profoundly deaf and we dont use the telephone at all. However we have to have the telephone line to be able to use broadband as emailing is our only way of communicating with the outside world. We dont get the full value from our line rental like hearing people do.

Does anyone know any way round this or any other alternatives? but keeping our broadband connection?

    Many thanks.

    Yep...won't argue with that.

Perhaps people who get internet via Sky, Homechoice or Virgin etc may be able to get around it, otherwise we can't join the scheme.

I'm disabled too and use the internet for 80% of my shopping and do nearly all communiation via email to cut the phone costs. Ususally discount schemes include disabled users. I'm still reeling from the email I got from BT today re' £4.50 charge for not paying my bill by direct Debit or Monthly Plan....This I am VERY hacked off about!!!!
