thanks for the help guys
,
not sure if these website provide instantaneous emails. Looks like they send an update (i.e. daily etc)
Im basically want to watch a site which sells out of something rather fast, hence when it comes into stock (and the page is updated) I want to know right away (within a few mins).
Cant seem to find anything suitable. Was hoping there would be some kind of monitoring program which i could download and run using my internet connection.
Any pointers is greatly appreciated.0 -
There is a linux command "wget" which could be used in an automated script to get certain details. You could automate this script to run every 10 minutes and compare price to a preset level. You could then trigger an email script to send you an email. If really clever you could sign up to a txt alert for an email hitting your account. It would take 30 minutes or so scripting to set all this up.
However...
Wget works fine on https://www.bbc.co.uk but using it on https://www.ebuyer.co.uk results in no output.
Websites can choose whether to accept these kind of robot connections (robots.txt) . Ebuyer chooses not to. This stops everyone from setting up their own robots/crawlers from bringing the web to a grinding halt. They probably accept request from major search engines/price comparisons etc but not from me.
Kelkoo does accept wget requests but I bet they update their prices less frequently then every hour.
Pay a yoof to do the checking for you or get a 3G phone?0
