How many lightbulb moments?

Hi

Was curious to see if most people had just one lightbulb moment and from that turned things around?

I had what I thought was a blinding, crashing LBM last March and really thought I'd sort it all. I didn't!

Then gradually, with circumstances getting worse, I had the 'proper' one in January and contacted CCCS, which is what someone recommended back in, oooh, June? :o

I still think I'm a way away from being hardcore enough to tackle it all fully, as I should, but I'm trying and hopefully will get there one day :)

Have days where the lightbulb seems to flicker, some where it's shining bright and others where it's out completely!! :rotfl: Does anyone have this?

Would love to hear your LBM experiences! Have I just been really slow on the whole thing, as I've seen people sorting themselves out really quickly once LBM has happened (reading Golddiggers fabulous progress for one example :))

I've not got many debts and every so often I had mini LBM's, however this latest LBM was a major one, decided I really need to make a massive effort to pay off these debts.

This time I'm really determined and have done lots to push me in the right direction. I'm getting there..... it's a low process, but I've learned my lesson.
  • I don't see actually see it as lots of LBMs but that if I take my eyes of the ball everything falls to bits again. I have to stay totally focused. :money:

Although concerned for quite a while
I put it out of mind
At no time did my payment
    Schedule fall behind

But paying back without a plan
    Got me nowhere fast
I couldnt see which way to go
Or how long it would last

Then one day I dont know why
A thought passed through my brain
Why the hell do I keep chucking
    Money down the drain

    My home life suffered terribly
Then one day hit the mark
The light came on and all was clear
    Stopped stumbling in the dark

Im not as good as some on here
    Whose stories can inspire
    But happy in the knowledge
    No longer in the mire

    Good luck

Mine sorta took a dive out of the window last year, when for first time in life I had all of £30 a month going out on debts, had started full time work and believed i could finally afford to finance getting some actual decent solid furniture, rather than flat pack build your own or second hand sofa's. so from around £800 debt I now have near on £6000 and suddenly found myself unemployed. Bought myself a Ledger last month when i went back on income support, worked money out and my lightbulb sorta screamed 'FOOOOOOL' at me. Kids are too old for child care and too young to take care of themselves for a few hours. Now I have a stable income even if kids are ill, have hospital appointments and such, my money isn't going to take a nose dive. I now just need to work my outgoings within my incoming.
Have been bluntly honest with kids and we are all going to pull together to tighten the family belt, we're gonna start making this years presents.

My lightbulb attempted to switch itself on many times over the years, but because we had not told anyone about the extent of our debt, and access to sites like this etc was not as readily available, I think the enormity of what we had to achieve just swamped us and the flicker of the lightbulb was instantly put out again.

We have tried on a number of occasions to get to grips with things completely but for one reason or another things never actually improved and we became content with keeping our heads above water even though we weren't actually reducing the debt.

Then my big blazing super wattage lightbulb moment happened last year and with the support of these boards, and opening up to a couple of very close friends about what we are going through, we have managed to make real progress.

Of course, some days it feels as though the tunnel is very long, but other days I really do feel as though I am getting somewhere. And when I update my totals and see that it IS reducing, I get a nice warm glow which must be the lightbulb giving off a bit of heat.....

Just the one for us. We managed to sort out a lot since our lbm back in october and hopefully we won't fall off the wagon even though we've got some rough times ahead!
