npower card meter reclaim undercharging

I have a npower electricity card meter.
npower just sent me a letter saying that they have not reset the meter for some time and they have been undercharging by £1.37 for every £5 voucher bought.
npower now want to reclaim the debt as the result of their undercharging error and will add a weekly amount to my meter settings to reclaim the money.
Is this legal?
Why should I have to pay for their incompetence?
Thank you for your attention.

If you browse or do a search, there are numerous threads about this with various suppliers including nPower
, I saw a similar thread relating to BG just yesterday.
However, to answer your question, yes it is legal, but energywatch have a very low opinion of this and have a good track record at getting companies to reduce the amount you have to pay back.0 -

Have had my new gas and electricity statements from British Gas - gas monthly DD reduced by £27.00 and electricity monthly DD reduced by £21.50 - about time to! Will now check to see if it's worth switching!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Hey there,
I rang powergen in sept 06 to get my meter removed and they told me i had a £300+ debt as they hadnt changed the pricing on my meter. I agreed to pay of the debt at £3 a week, until last night i mentioned this to a neighbour who had had the same problem, only she didnt have to pay any of her debt back! I rang powergen last night and explained this to them and after 25 minutes of me complaining about this the debt was removed from my account. DONT accept these charges, they take £1.52 a week off us for the upkeep and maintenance of our meters and they clearly are not doing this. GOOD LUCK xx0 -
call the energywatch helpline npower will soon backtrack0
