Save a further £10/month with htl

Hi - forgive me if this has been mentioned already, but it's a "variation on a theme", so to speak!

Last year someone posted on here that if you complain to ntl and threaten to leave them then they'll credit your account with £10 every month. This I did, and sure enough, since then I've been saving.

However, last month I got so mad with them for various reasons that I called again and said "Right! Discount or no discount, I'm definately leaving and switching back to BT & Sky!" Well, the usual questions as to why followed, but eventually they apologised and offered me a further £10 off my bill! So I'm saving £10 on my phone, and another £10 on my TV!

Like I said, apologise if it's been covered before - I know the initial £10 had, but can't remember the extra - so delete the post if necessary moderator

Pity their dialup internet service isn't so generous. I've been having DNS problems for over six months so finally phoned up to cancel. They asked why I wanted to cancel and when I explained the problem they said ok and gave me a cancellation date! :-)

In my experience, think of it as a blessing that you will be cancelling. In my experience, NTL can't even cancel correctly. They were really nice just before I cancelled "we can do a deal", etc, etc, and then, well, it went like this...
I cancelled my dial up/telephone/TV account with NTL, but they continued to take money off our credit card for 4 months for the dial up account. They stopped only when we told them. They then said we owed them more than we did for the telephone. In the end they agreed to pay us the difference. We were not happy, but for £15 we decided to pay and forget about it. But they didn't pay. So we complained and were told, "you're cheque is in the post." Months later, no cheque. So we complained and asked for a full refund again. They said nothing, then one day, we got a cheque for the balance (not the full refund). OK, so it's all sorted? Wrong! 9 months later we received a letter from a credit collection company. They had been instructed by NTL to collect from us the balance of the money that NTL owed us (!??), and better yet, it was for the telephone number that we had before we even moved to NTL (which was about 10 years before). The credit recovery company were very good about it and said that either them or NTL would contact us within 7 days. No one did, so we phoned up the credit recovery company who said that NTL should have phoned us. I'm so surprised they didn't!!!
If NTL paid me, I wouldn't go back. I'm glad it's all over, and now I pay hardly anything for my phone line (talktalk, 18866, 1899, voip), and I've got broadband for the same price as dial up, and I got cash back, and I got a free phone (from MBNA), and now I'm happy. Thank you Money Saving expert. :)

t_i_g_e_rr i'm in a similar situation to what you were. I told ntl to cancel my cable tv and telephone. They cancelled the tv but continued to charge for the telephone (even though I had asked them to cancel and it wasn't being used!) They've now stopped it and are now threatening action with a debt recovery company! Their customer services did nothing each time I called them and they've also ignored a letter I've sent them. At the moment i'm stuck on what to do, but I have posted about it here:

@ Tich they are keen to keep customers, and will continue to give offers if people threaten to leave (but they won't do this forever!), if you actually do want to leave then expect hell and them continuing to charge you!

Even so, it's still worth leaving (in my opinion). And not just because they are more expensive. Just hope that when you do, you owe them money and not the other way around.
