Netgear DG834G modem was working away quite happily until I upgraded from a 1 meg connection to a 2 meg (same ISP). Due to erratic connection speeds, I unplugged Netgear and plugged original ISP supplied Speedtouch modem back in until speed issues were resolved.
Gone to plug Netgear back in but it wont connect at all. It lights up as it should and I get to the configuration page where the connection ISP info is, like username/password etc, but it just wont connect.
No settings have been changed either on computer or on Netgear so I don't understand why it wont connect now? I tried rebooting and also resetting back to factory settings but neither worked.
Any suggestions? I just can't see what I'm missing (unless it's developed a fault all of a sudden).

Answered my own question. I think I may have had a dodgy phone cable, I tried a new cable and it seems to work ok now.Herman - MP for all!0

I heard about this...but don't remember if there was a solution or not (you might want to search google).
Which version firmware are you using, 1.05.00? If not try upgrading to 1.05.00, it seems a bit more stable to me than previous releases. Now, not long ago Netgear released a new version of the firmware but at the time it was still a beta version and hence unsupported. If you're feeling adventurous you might want to try it. Personaly, I would only try it as a last resort, just in case I end up with an unusable router. Prior to trying anything get all the utilities from the netgear site, especially the one that allows you to reset the router to it's original firmware if an upgrade have failed. I'm sure you know this, but just in case: Don't upgrade the firmware over a wireless connection.
A lot of things tend to happen with netgear routers all of a sudden. Few months ago the wireless was not working and netgear support proved useless, especially when they suggested to remove all the encryption from the network. What kind of use would I have of an un-encrypted network where anyone could gain access? Eventually it started working again. A colleague of mine had the same problem, which too went away all of a sudden...Apart from that the router it's pretty reliable...
If I find anything related to your problem I'll let you know. Sorry for not being much of a help.
D'oh! Just read your other post. It's sometimes amazing how we overlook the trivial things...glad the problem is sorted.0 -
I appreciate you taking the time to try to help nonetheless.

You are very welcome. Few months ago when I was looking for people with similar problems to mine, I came accross some instability problems with higher connection speeds (over 512), and since my provider will be upgrading us soon to the highest speed the exchange can take, I was a bit nervous. Given that yours is working ok, I'm less worried now.0
