PC World offer ring and reserve service

See here:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editorial/collectatstore

Note in the small print:

"All Collect@Store sales take place in our stores and are subject to our usual in store Terms and Conditions. However, provided you bring your Collect@Store print out and/or reference number with you, our store will always honour the online price for the goods which was showing when you chose to Collect@Store - this may be cheaper than the usual in store price!"

Excellent. :)

This is a lovely spot and means a simple rule. If you want to buy something in PC world. First go to the website and check the price there, then ring and reserve and you should get the cheaper online rather than the store post.

Great t&c reading!!!! Love it.

  • In response to Martin's insert... the in-store price of the linked DVD writer from PC World appears to be about £40 over the top. I checked it on the link below.

This is my usual source for checking prices of computer components.

but surely thats the point, the instore price was expensive but the online price beat even the price you quote on your link, plus no P&P and you can pick the product up yourself there and then

I went and bought a printer, digital camera and DVD re-writer recently from PC World. I didn't bother with the reserve in store set-up on the website I just went in with the print-outs which stated that you could do that with the items. I asked for the items and then asked did they price match with the prices on the site. The assistant informed me that it was not company policy to match with any website not even theirs. So, I handed the poor deluded fool a copy of the relevant pages from the website and said if they didn't match them I would go home and reserve them with a different store. Magically the discount appears and I also got buy now pay in 12 months (you can't call it interest free as they charge you £25 to pay it off early or nearly 30% APR if you forget). I even blagged a free pack of DVD re-writables and a free printer cable as I took out their insurance protection on the camera (for £1.99 for 1 month which I will then cancel). I though a good deal and saved myself over £75 on the in-store price for a bit of haggling and having the relevant bits of paper to hand.

The link to Scan is neat (saved off for future use). As a follow-on to Woby-Tides comments, being a high-street shop you do not expect PC World to be competitive with internet resellers (outside of their special offers). I usually research on the web and then check PC Worlds price.

Maybe I should also add that I live in Northern Ireland where we get totally 'stung' for P&P. If we use eBuyer, DABS etc. they usually add about £12-20 in addition to the normal delivery charges, therefore to get the part mail order would have cost me aboiut £70-80. With PC World, not only was it P&P free I picked up the drive and had it working with my PC in about 2 hours after ordering it.

Before leaving work last night I ordered some additional parts for my brothers PC (all on web special prices) and pciked them up on the way home and installed them for him last night. Convenience and value!

Yeah I stumbled across this a few weeks ago when I was looking for a Epson R300 (Fantastic printer by the way)

PCWorld online were the cheapest along with Comet and a few other big changes.... online retailer such as Dabs, Ebuyer, MicroDirect were more expensive...

So I reserved the printer and picked it up a day or two later... much in the same way as you can with Argos.

My sister works for the Dixons group and gets a staff discount so I was cheeky and tried to get that discount too....they said I could but they would not be able to honour the online discounted price which worked out to be about 20% so I paid my £80 and was happy with that.
  • Just bought a Canon Ixus 40 camera and HP 375 Stand-alone printer for my daughter, had a look on their web site for the price went into my local store as asked them to match it and they said yea no probs, they didn't even check the price that I was giving them, so I could have been a bit cute and knocked a bit more off !!

Just been in PC world and and bought my self a Packard Bell Laptop. In store it was £599 but online it as only £499 and i only found this out by accident as one of my friends works there and managed to get me that price. It definaltey pays to have alook at there website other wise i would have ended up paying over a hundred pounds more than i needed to!
