PC World ... well done!

I had a very surreal shopping experience at the weekend. After gaining an additional year I decided to invest some of the funds kindly donated by family and friends into a new DVD-rewriter for my computer. I decided on a particular model and had a quick surf to find that I could get it for about £58 plus P&P. On Saturday I called into my local PC World thinking that if it was under £80 I would ismply buy it there-and-then but exactly the same model was £99 - so I decided to go home and order it from DABS (or whoever).
My mind must have been wandering because for some reason I went onto the PC World web site and lo and behold there was the exact same drive on a special 'web only' offer at £57 so, considering they had not punished me too hard with the P&P the previous time I decided to order it.
As I went through the order process it quickly became apparent that I would have to call into my local store to pick it up. I was thinking that this would be sometime this week but at the end it simply asked me to give them at least 1 hour for the order to be processed. I printed out the bit of paper, took it up to PC World and picked up the drive for £57.... no P&P.
I think this is a great marketing ploy by PC World and long may it continue. Not only did I get the drive cheaper than anywhere else but I used the money 'saved' to buy loads of disks and a USB hub.
I don't think this is available on everything but hey it worked for me!

Indeed. I posted elsewhere on this when it was announced - it says in the small print of their ring and reserve service that if the item is on special offer on their website, that's the price you'll pay when you collect it in-store. Good on you, PC World (and it's not often you'll hear me saying that!).0

which one did u get ivan ?THESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS ……
..…JUST WAIT AND SEE0 -
I got the Lite-On SOHW-1653X-03C (PC World product code 20874). I particularly wanted an external one (no free drive bays on my existing machine).
All I can say is, that given this method of selling, PC World has now moved up significantly (i.e. to first place) for sites I will be surfing when looking for new bits and bobs.

A few months ago I needed a new keyboard - old one just would not work - so couldn't get online to price a new one. Phoned PC world - call centre number - and a very helpful guy priced all the available keyboard/mouse packages. He recommended a Trust wireless k/board with optical mouse which was down to £16.99 from £29.99. Confirmed that was the price I would pay in store and Sprucefield had a load of them. So off I go to Sprucefield - pick up said item (no price displayed) and take it to the till. £29.99 please.
Went to customer services and relayed the above. Refused to sell at price I had been quoted even after phoning customer services at my insistence and confirming it should be sold at £16.99. Claimed it was a web only price.
I told them I had travelled specifically to buy because of what I had been told and asked would they not honour customer services price as a matter of goodwill.
Reply - "we don't do goodwill". Nor would he get the manager.
Haven't bought anything of them since.sufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0
