Breach of comfort of home thingy

Its a technical term honest :D

Would you class not having a kitchen for a month a breach of this right?

It has looked like this for 4 weeks now, and I am at the end of my teather

between that and the whole mess they made of your new bath, i would definately get onto your local council to negotiate and reduction/rebate of your rent for the inconvenience. it would be patience testing at the best of times, but to go on THAT long, especially when you have young kids and chauffs health to think of.. its not on.

you give them what for, wanty :j

    Good God!

What kind of cowboys contract for your local council? They should be fired!

I'm sorry I don't know what to suggest. Mortgage companies certainly wouldn't class a property as 'habitable' if it didn't have a kitchen!

Did you get your bath situation sorted? I'm glad you're still alive at least!

EDIT: Question answered, but oh, I really feel for you looking at that as well. I'd be causing merry hell!

I'm not the sort of person that would usually suggeset the local paper, but they really would like that sort of thing in my town, especially withthe pictures and the electrocution story! They always seem to get things sorted for council tenants when they appear in the rag.

You could try emailing your local paper???? They may be interested that a Mum and her family have been left in these conditions and would know who to interview - who in turn will know who to yell at in the right department.

(And I would kill for a kitchen that size!!!! Mines about half!)

ive just gone through your profile to find the thread and see how it was resolved.

i'll be honest, i dont now the legislation regading this (you're probably best off posting in the house buying and renting forum). but i should imagine your local MP (and maybe your local rag) will be able to put pressure on the council to pull their finger out.

CAB are normally a godsend in situations like this as well. they will definately be able to tell you what your rights are. in fact, you could try looking in the relevant section of their website.

LOL Charlotte, thats only half the kitchen :D

The plasterers are in there now making a mess

They were supposed to be moving us out because of the amount of work being done, but because they took on a load more houses using our budget, they couldn't afford it, so we have been stuck like this eating off paper plates in rooms full of dust with all our food in boxes on the floor in the living room.

You know what we are getting to repair all the mess they make? A good will guesture of £50 decorating voucher.

Doozer, the bath is sorted thank you :D The subcontractors are a well known company in the North.

Well, if it isn't costing you anything, I would just put up and think about the end result. We extended and refit our kitchen 3 years ago - cost the best part of £30k, and that was with Mr Frizz project managing the job himself - saving a small fortune.

What does it matter if it is costing us or not? We are paying rent to live in a house suitable to be lived in.
