I really wanna insure my foreign car - how?

this is slightly complicated - please bear with me.

I am british and currently live in the UK.

I have just bought a second hand car which is now on my drive.
This car is let hand drive and registered on Italian number plates.

In 6 weeks I will be moving to live in France permanently and will be taking my new car with me.

Once I get to Fance, I will be registering the car there and will be getting a french number plate, however this cannot be done until the car is over there.

But here is my problem. The car is currently uninsured...

1. I dont think that I can insure my car in England through a UK company since it is on Italian plates

2. I dont think that I can isure my car in France through a french company since it is on Italian plates

3. I dont think that I can insure my car with an Italian company since I don't and never will live in Italy.

I really want to insure my car but dont know where to start......

any help would be most appreciated.

thanks

Hi - try https://www.alessie.com who can insure almost any car anywhere in europe.
  • Can you please tell me which insurance company ensured on Chassis Number?
It seems most large insurance companies have stopped doing this and alessie.com are very expensive.
    Thanks

The "insure a car on the chassis number" is usually only so you can go an get the car registered, because you need to be able to drive it to the MOT station and possibly the local VRO.

We live in France and many people have UK registered cars insured with French insurance companies on a temporary basis. You need an address in France and as a visitor can use the UK car there for up to 6 months. However once you are living permanently in France any car you bring over from another country must be registered in France within one month. If you need more PM me and I will try to help.

One more thing, have you got a "certificate of conformity" in French for the car? As it is practically impossible to register a car in France without it.
