Is this just me or is this affecting other people ?
I initiated a switch to Powergen on 28/12/2004. After what seemed like an eternity (end Feb) the Electricity side was setup and I got my final bill from the previous supplier. This is now up and running.
The Gas side of things is still "Pending" !! Numerous emails to Powergen result in the suggestion that the account has been transferred but this is just an online glitch with their internet service ?? However, no money has exited my account.
I haven't had a gas bill since moving in to this new house in July 2004. I think I could be in line for a 4 figure one if Powergen don't get their act together and sort it out !!!

Sorry, nothing to offer in the way of help as I was coming here looking for answers myself and it seems things are much worse than I originally thought
I already have my electricity with Powergen but asked them at the beginning of Feb to take over my gas (currently with British Gas) and change both meters as they're currently pre-pay and it would be much cheaper for me to pay by DD.
I had someone come out to read my electric meter about a month ago, then 2 weeks ago received a letter requesting the gas point number from my bill, so I gave them a call and also asked how long it would be till I was switched over ... "oh, you'll be contacted within the next 10 days to make an appt to change your meters" ... yeah right
I received another letter a couple of days ago saying it would be another 2-4 weeks before they could switch me over and then I need to phone to make an appt for an engineer to come and change the meters!!!
In the meantime, they're refusing to do my electric meter as "it will save time if they do them together"
I tried to call them on Tuesday to find out what the delay was ... (I'd read on here previously about some people having 12 week delays and specifically asked about that when I first asked to be changed over and they said there had been a backlog but they'd caught up now) ... hmmmmm ... but their computers were down ... how convenient ... and said someone would call me back, but I'm still waiting
I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have tried a different company, but maybe they all take just as long too"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

....from 20 mins research I'm not sure they do all take as long. Having logged a complaint with Energywatch I checked out their stats on 3-monthly complaints. It would appear that Scottish & Southern have 0.32 complaints per 1000 transfers whereas Powergen and most of the others have 1.7 complaints per 1000. Doesn't sound that much in words, but when you look on the graphs it is pretty conclusive.
Cheers for your reply anyway CQ, good (or should it be bad ?) to hear that I am not alone.Like a priceless jewel buried in dark layers of soil and stone, earth radiates her brilliant beauty into the caverns of space and time.

I switched from Npower to Powergen in July 2004. As seems typical hear the Electricity was switched quickly but the Gas dragged on for about a month. They seem to have more trouble with the gas side of things. At the moment you can not enter Gas meter readings on their web site. They are the cheapest though and to be fair to them when I had a silly gas bill this month they sorted it all out in a couple of days.0

I switched gas to them at the end of last year (I already used them for electricity). I pay by monthly direct debit which they have been taking but they have yet to send me a bill which is now about a month overdue. I e-mailed them through their website and was notified that I would receive a response within 24 hours. It's now been 5 days and I'm still waiting......

Well, it seems I'm finally getting somewhere with Powergen (maybe they've had a kick up the jacksy from all the complaints!) and have spoken to two lovely helpful people there this morning
My gas is due to be transfered on 30th March, at which point they will need a meter reading from me (funnily enough British Gas came yesterday to get a meter reading too!) and then I can book an engineer to come out and change the meter :T
However, when I enquired about changing the electric meter I was told that I'd have to contact another number as they are dealt with separately (Gas = Quantum, Electric = Seimens) ... so whoever told me previously to wait and have them done together was talking out their !!!!!!
I now have an engineer coming next week to change my electric meter, but I'm rather peed off that I could have had this done weeks ago and saved a fair bit of money, as I'm paying a fortune through the pre-paid meter"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I'm glad that you're finally getting somewhere. I got this reply to my e-mail today :
I'm sorry for the delay in responding to your query as a high volume of our customers are currently choosing to contact us by email.
We've recently updated our billing system and this has caused a delay in billing your account.
I've made the necessary alterations to your account and a bill will be produced for you shortly and to ensure this bill is as accurate as possible some current readings are required.
You can either enter these online or email the readings in and a bill will be produced for you as soon as possible.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused by this matter.
I hope you're satisfied with my reply.
I'm not really satisfied with their reply but then I am a fussy sod. My gas meter was changed a few weeks ago, luckily I took a note of the old and new readings. I still have a suspicion that this is going to turn into another fiasco like it did when my electricity meter was changed. I have sent through my current readings and will wait (probably for a couple of weeks!) and see.

The gas side of things seems to be the common thread. Is it not British Gas that is the hold up ?.
Why are you getting your meters changed ?.0 -
I currently have pre-pay meters fitted for both but until finding this site I didn't realise how much more I was paying than if I had a regular meter and paid bills/DD's. I'll be saving somewhere in the region of £200 a year by switching meters "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Nothing to do with British Gas. The elec meter was changed a couple of years ago (I was with NPower at the time), the Gas meter has just been changed. Both were replaced due to age - I guess it must be due to the age of my house?0
