Where to find Repossessed Houses?

I am trying to get myself on the property ladder and was thinking of buying a Repossessed house, and maybe renting it to help me get on the property ladder. Use as a stepping stone as such like.
Where is the best place to find such properties, as i assume lenders would be more keen to get rid of them fast and woundnt want them hanging around for long!
Auctions i guess is the usual place, but is there a nation list of residential auctions?
any uk Repossessed lists? I guess any houses that are Repossessed would have to be listed on some time of public register? The residents would be issued with some type of reprosession order?
Dont mean to prey on someones misfortune, but just trying to get myself on the property ladder is proving difficult.

(I don't have anything to do with them in case anyone asks!)0 -
Actually buying repo's can be absolute torture, at no point can you be secure in the knowledge that the house will be yours. I have more or less given up buying them.
Repo lists tend to be put together far enough in advance for all the good stuff to have been completed.0
