Need to make a warranty claim...

I brought a camcorder of Ebay about 6 months ago which has now gone faulty. I have contacted the seller and told them what has gone wrong and they said to return it to them and they'd sort it out.

thing is I'm concerned that I'm going to send it to them and then never see it again. What precautions do you recommend I take?

Difficult one this...I can't really suggest anything you can do as you are now relying entirely on the seller's honesty. is there any way you can access the warranty yourself?

  • Well it's a JVC camcorder and they are aware that there is a fault with them and made an announcement on their website about it. But it states that I must deal with the warranty claim through my dealer. Thing is I didn't get a JVC warranty with it so I don't see any other option than return it to the seller.....

Here is a link to the JVC announcement:

Has your seller confirmed he is a dealer for the purposes of the warranty, and not just someone who happened to get a few from a shop closing down?

At the end of the day if you don't send it back you are stuffed. Pack it properly and post it Special Delivery. There are quite a few items that I sell where I deal with the warranty claims. Believe me it is a pain. If I can shift it direct to the manufacturer I do. But it all really depends on where I sourced the item from on the course of action I get buyers to take.
  • As Hintza says - you either send it and risk losing it or have a non working camcorder. One way you stand a chance of getting a working camcorder.
  • can't you just go direct to jvc?
  • Nah. I tried callin 'em but day weren't avin nun of it! :)

Whilst i can understand peeps being a bit worried about sending goods like that back I can tell you my view as a seller of things that have gone wrong.

About 12 / 18 months ago i sold a few hard drives & have had problems with 2 of them. I asked the sellers to send them back to me to check them out. One of them was a small problem that i sorted. the other problem was a new unit.

I sorted it out without any probs.........just remember that not all peeps on ebay are out to rip you off.
Send it back if you want it sorting out just send it back
